Afternoon, we are going to Holland for the first time in July and we have a ferry booked back from Rotterdam to Hull. It is 8.30pm at night and my caravan site has a time of 11am to leave. The site is only about 1 hour away so we have a bit of time to kill.
Does anyone have any experience of parking up at Rotterdam Ferry Port for a few hours.
Any advice, greatly recieved.

hi. does the site not have a parking area you could park up at and still use the site facilities till later in afternoon

I agree with Diesel Steve. Negotiate with the camp site, agree a price with them to stay longer. We've done that lots of times in lots of situations. Money talks !

The Rotterdam ferry to Hull normally does a first load round about 5.00 pm, even though the ship does n't sail till 9 ish ( the same is true of the Hull departure by the way) so you can go aboard and enjoy a few jars pre dinner. Best to arrive in the queue around 04.30pm. You can of course board later if you want to get a meal on shore before boarding.

I would be amazed if your campsite would n't offer some arrangement to park your van if you wanted to do a local visit. (are you staying nr Delft? )

Alternatively if you have a look at the map, there are roads almost straight from Europort which put you around Rockanje, and this is a great seaside area for a day parked up anf a picnic, and you are only 30mins traffic free from Europort for the final dash.

With the Rotterdam to Hull ferry you have to be there at least 2 hours before, so you have to be there by 6.30pm for an 8.30pm crossing, which is still a lot of time to kill.

I'd agree with the other posters, ask the site if it is possible to either extend your stay on the pitch by a few hours, or whether there is anywhere to park up and still use the facilities.

Unless it has changed recently there is a large car park before the check in booths and as there are only two sailings a day - both in the evening you would not be blocking the lines if you arrived early. However it might be more pleasant to park up somewhere away from the port for a while as Europoort is not the most scenic of place unless you are into oil refineries and ships. Some of the country parks have areas for day caravans where you could park. The closest one I can think of is beside the Ode Maas close to the turning to Briele from the main Europoort highway.
