Good morning all,
Hope the weather's treating you all well, we've finally got a break in the clouds and the sun is out! way hey!
Anyway, a small enquiry regarding our pitch in France when we go.
We are off to the Moulin Du Roch in the Dordogne in July and we have booked a pitch with services. I don't know if anyone's actually been here but I was after an idea as to how much waste water pipe to take? I don't want to take 10m if the waste holes are all over the pitch and also, I don't want to have to put the caravan in a certain place just because I haven't got enough... Also, what connection at the waste end do I use? Does it just go into a hole in the ground?
I know this is only a simple request but it's one I thought of while sitting here waiting for the rest of the household to get out of bed on this fine Sunday morning...
Cheers everyone

On forums it's known as 'bumping' a post - adding a reply, even if you don't know an answer, just to make sure it doesn't disappear over the page.  Most people don't look at page 2 unless they're following a particular topic, in which case they'd already have added an answer, so if your post goes over the page without already having had a raply it's unlikely to attract any more replies.

Your post hadn't had any replies, so I added a 'Bump' post to bring it back to the top.  Sometimes people literally just type 'Bump' - and at least now you'll know what that means.

Now I know what bumping is!
I love this site but I'm obviously still learning...

I went to this site 3 years ago and can't remember seeing any "Service Pitches". Obviously they are there but if you book a service pitch once then you will book another somewhere else and so on. So you will always have the same predicament. It's the same as your EHU cable. You just never know. So all I can say is why cut it. Just put it in the boot as it is.

By the way. It's a lovely well maintained site.

Hi Dodger 936,

We are staying at Moulin du Roch for 10 days this July and have never used a service pitch before. How did you get on with the waste piping? Did you take and need the 10m in the end? Also, did you need any adaptors for the electric hook up or was the standard UK 3 pin suitable?

Thanks.

JH2

Hi JH2,
The pitch we had meant that we put our caravan on the same side of the pitch as the waste drain and we only needed about 3m of waste pipe.
It's a square pitch so it really does depend on if you want your van at the back of the square or if you want it down the side as we did. Have you got the adaptor for your water barrel so you can just connect it to the tap?
The electric adaptor took us by surprise because we needed the 2 pin adaptor, which we didn't have. However, we got one from the site shop within 5 minutes of getting there and it was only about £4.80!
The pitches are superb and we are going again this year we enjoyed it so much...
I envy you going in July and I hope you have a really great time, Let me know how you go on!
Cheers

Hi All   We have been going to Moulin for the last 10 years but allways have the same pitch, but it's not a super pitch. The family are very helpfull, I would email them and tell them your problem, ask for Eve or Katy.   We will be at the site this year from 20th May to the end of June.

                    Have a good holiday  Vini

Hi Peter,
absolutely no problem! We went for the first time last year and the help we got from the people on this site was unbelievable. I'd never towed abroad before and to be honest I only had limited experience in this country!
The advice I got was accurate and easy to follow and it made the difference between a good holiday and one that we'll never forget. We're indebted to our fellow members for their kind assistance.
We can't go until the middle of August but we can't wait so have a great time and if there is anything else I can help anyone with, please let me know!

Andy

Hi Dodger, sorry for the delay in replying. Thanks for your reassurance about the serviced pitch issue. I've got a question about the best route to take getting to the site. When I do a search for a route on both google, tom tom and via Michelin, they all come up with a route that involves using the tunnels around Paris that link the A13 and the A86, even when I put in the fact that I'm towing a caravan. Yet when I looked at the route on street view there seems to be a height restriction of 2m on these tunnels which, clearly I wont get into. Have you got any suggestions? Thanks

Hi Jhsleicester, I got loads of advice on the journey down to Moulin du Roch and I weighed up all of the options due to my lack of experience with towing at that time. Also, I wasn't relishing the idea of going round some of the 5 lane roads round Paris with a caravan on the back and thousands of impatient Parisians driving like something out of 'too fast, too furious'.
Anyway, we decided to take the route from Calais down to Rouen. We then headed from there down to Salbris and stayed there for the night. The N roads were quiet, the scenery was outstanding and we avoided a lot of tolls. My Wife was very 'concerned' about the journey but it was a memorable part of the holiday that we are doing again this year. We stopped at the services about 60 miles from Calais, had a couple of hours sleep and then set off for Salbris about 7.30am. We were at Salbris about 2pm, six and a half hours with a couple of breaks,,, and it flew by!
From Salbris, it's straight onto the A20 down to Sarlat. 5 and a quarter hours later, (after a dinner stop), we were there! There are loads of routes and posts about the route past Rouen etc but I can't comment on the journey round Paris sorry. However you get there thought, the roads in France knock spots off ours here. It's actually a pleasure to drive and the first cone we saw was when we got off the Chunnel in Folkestone and hit the great british roadworks!
You'll have a great time and I hope the sun shines for you. Order your bread the night before from the shop, sit in the sun for your breakfast and when you get back make sure you let us know how you went on!

Thanks for that, I have been looking at alternative routes that avoid Paris all together and your comments about the 5 lane highways brings back memories of traveling that way as a kid with my parents.

I have a printed alternative route to that going through Paris here - the one mentioned by Dodger in his post and also a 'How to avoid Rouen centre' here or I'd be happy to email you if you email me at valathomenow at tiscali.co.uk
