Everyone is different, so you won't really know until you are on the road. Just drive and stop when you feel you need to.
I've done London to Granada, non stop (bar meals) in thirty odd hours in my mad youth .... don't recommend it!
Do it so that it is fun and not a chore.

Hi Cleef15

The site is really friendly, and someone will give you a hand. There are normally around 20 to 25 British families, at least 10 come back year after year. Most of the people on site are German, bit there is a really good mixture of French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and Swedish campers

When do you get there? We will be there from 3rd to 26 August, give me a shout if you need any help

I will be there with my wife and 3 chilren: Girl 8, Boys aged 10 and 13

Matt

I agree with Boxman's route.  We did it two years ago, with one overnight (3 nights) at Clermont Ferrand.

Regards Bob

we're off to Pals in 3 weeks, we're setting off from Yorkshire for a tunnel crossing, then driving to Orleans for an overnighter in a hotel, then onto Pals.  I have worked out my route, with mileage and estimated times and tolls as I have to do all the driving as hubby can't drive.  Last time I drove to Spain we stayed at La Croix du Vieux Pont for 3 nights before setting off for Spain (had 7 nights there) then set off for return journey up the west coast of France which included a 4 nighter stop and then a 3 nighter stop before getting the Roscoff crossing.  This year we have no kids (woohoo) but the first time we did and just had plenty of stops and dvd's playing for them.  Hope you all have a fantastic trip

We will be there from the 12-27th August with 3 boys (6, 12, 16) - blue Combicamp and blue Renault Scenic, so please ask if you need a hand.

Mattsurf; do they allow charcoal barbeques and is it worth taking our own wetsuits for windsurfing/sailing etc and bikes?
Thank you

Loads of threads on pegs ... go to Equipment ... many will swear by Delta pegs ... I like Peggy-Pegs.

The Ground is pretty hard, but not too rocky. Saying that I use a combination of normal pegs and rock pegs in the corners - Rock pegs are great as they do not bend when being hammered into hard ground

Charcoal BBQ's are fine - best to have a fire extinguisher as well - a couple of years ago  saw a tent go up flames, luckily within 5 seconds several neighboring campers had rushed out with fire extinguishers so there was no real harm other than to the awning of the tent

I am a very experience windsurfer and just use a rash vest. I take a shorty wetsuit in case the the Tramontana blows which is much cooler, however, the Tramontana is relatively rare in the August. The majority of windsurfers do use a shorty wetsuit, I guess that I am just hardier than them. We have never taken kids wetsuits with us, however, some people do, especially for water sports. For general playing in the sea a wetsuit is definately not required.

A rash vest is also good for children with very fair skin

There is a sailing/windsurf school next to the campsite - you can get lessons, rent kit or get taken out on a catamaran with an experienced sailor

If you can take bikes it is a certainly an advantage, kids love to cycle around the camp site - if adults take their bikes you can cycle along the beach track into San Pedro Pescadore a couple of miles away or into Escala 5 ish miles away (do bring a good lock)

See you all in Spain - pitch 54a with a Cabannon Galaxy Trailer tent and silver Merceded Estate - We will be easy to find, just follow the noise and look for the collection of windsurfing equipment, inflatables, bikes and general mess

Once you are settled in please feel free to drop round (with bottle if you like)  - kids can also come round too

Matt

Hi Cleef, sounds like you're going to have a fab time with some help at hand and friendly faces.  My opinion is you've allowed more than enough time for the drive, although I've not ventured into Spain my first solo with kids (2 boys) journey was to St Tropez in motorhome pulling a speed boat (very old orange thing with no speed at all to be precise!) As I am hopeless at reversing trailers it was a bit worrying but I met some very helpful and friendly people along the way of all nationalities.  It will be a holiday to treasure for you all, have fun and good luck :-)
