From Dunkerque to Neufchatel en Bray? I assume autoroute is quickest (how much is the toll from Boulougne to Abbeville?), but what about the cross country route to Abbeville headsing towards St. Omer first and then via Hesdin, is that ok? OH will be driving and I don't want him stressed out at the start of our holiday.

Anne

The 'cross country' route thru St Omer etc is ok, not busy & the countryside very nice. A more pleasant route & shorter than the motorway.

Hi  We have used the St Omer/Hesdin route several times, (towing) and found it to be a very pleasant drive, however, being a "D" road it obviously takes longer passing through villages etc.  We never use toll roads as we are retired and are not pushed for time, so can't comment on cost.  Another alternative is to take free autoroute to Boulogne, and then the old "N" road to Abbeville.  (Sorry - I forget it's current number)  That works for us too.  Whichever way, have a good trip

Bryn

Thanks both, have considered both routes. We are also retired so not really pushed for time, but I do want to get to Neufchatel at a reasonable time the first night, the rest can go hang!

BTW Tentz, you told me to email the site at Neufchatel in French, which I did, they replied in near perfect English (much better than my French!). Anyway, all sorted. Taffy, I would contact them to be sure of a pitch, just in case.
