I have been wanting to go the Dover - Calais route to be over the Channel as quickly as possible. However, we feel our old car could do with the rest so we are considering the Portsmouth - Bilbao crossing.
Has anyone done this crossing in March? Is seasickness likely as the Bay of Biscay can get rough. Does anyone know when it is more likely to be rough? I am not so worried for myself, but with four young children seasickness could be rather difficult!
Any thoughts?
Clare
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
There was a documentary on tele some years ago which followed a Brittany Ferries ship on that route, but I think it was October time, they hit rough weather and most of them were ill. I've been across the North Sea in March and it was bad as well.
Why not give the car a good service before going, that should highlight any problems.
We have done the Plymouth Santandar crossing in early November that wasnt too bad at all. The ships these days are very stable compared to years ago. Go for it i'm sure you would enjoy it. Lots to do on board for adults & kids alike.
Thanks, I think the seasickness bands sound a really good idea.
I'm not sure yet what to do, I'll see if anyone else has any tales to tell.
We have had the car serviced. We are new to caravanning and not sure of the capabilites of our car pulling a caravan round France for eight months. We have made sure the weight is ok but I am cautious by nature.
