Hi There, I am planning on heading South this year, I am OK for France, but after that, want to go through Switzerland and into Italy to Bolognia area (assuming the quakes have settled down by then)and then back through Luxembourg, Liechtenstein to Belgium[Belgium is sorted] then home again.
Can anyone help with rec's for the L countries, Switzerland and Italy please?
Thanks in advance!

PS. We tend to go for smaller independent sites, but big ones are OK if no alternative.

can only help with switzerland - manor farm is a quality site just outside Interlaken on edge of Lake Thun, if you go out of schol hols its quite cheap, we did it with touring cheques at 12.95 a night, its great for doing the mountain railways, eiger and the jungfrau. we loved it here and have been twice and would go again tonorrow. Hi we have stayed here twice when on our travels and would strongly recommend it. Esch-sur-Sure in Grossherzogtum Luxembourg ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo2ZHszpiPE ). The campsite is on the river. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=9754
Many thanks for that, trying to get the plan together - and I am finding it difficult to do the round trip without either doing a monster drive and being just as tired after the holiday trip as before.
Although there are good family reasons for wanting to make the trip to Italy, I am wondering if it would just turn into a 10 day drive there and back if I split the journey too much or just bite the bullet and do two days each end hard driving and ignore the family protests!.

We always stay at Ipres Jeugstadion for a few days and usually do a hotel in Oostende for the very last night - it has become a tradition - so that we can easily get away for the ferry on "back to blighty" day.
The hotel in Oostende has secure off road parking, I usually do my Belgian beer stock up in DelHaze, and go for a meal at Koek Koek as well as sampling some of the finest selection of Belgian beers in the Bottelje.
In the past 5 years we have gone to Holland via Ipres and the Somme, fancied a change this year, just teying to work on the driving realities now...
Sounds great! We've been to Belgium twice but not there. Mr S also very fond of the Belgian beer. On a recent trip to Pitlochry we found an off licence that stocked Jupiler and some others.
Enjoy and hope you get your route worked out
