Hi All,

We’re off to camp on the Ile de Re at the weekend and starting to get more than a bit worried about the weather!  At the moment it’s not looking great and seems as if we’ll be better off at home, and I’m thinking two weeks in a tent with miserable weather and a 10 month old baby isn’t going to be the relaxing holiday we hoped for.

I’ve been looking around for alternatives if the weather is as bad as forecasted but even looking at going another 4.5 hours south to the Biarritz area doesn’t look great on the weather forecast.  

Can anyone offer any advice or a bit of reassurance that everything will be ok????!

Yep you would have thought the good weather would be starting to kick in know in all but Northern parts of France, and is one of the reasons we subscribe to the ACSI card.

But each year I change my mind and go in July to the South of France instead of late June, and the weather has been spot on of course.

Going late June would give a saving of at least £200 over the fortnight on pitch fees, not to mention the campsites would be a lot less busy, but maybe in a tent it's just not worth the saving!.

We've just had 18 days out of 21 with brilliant sunshine, and hot weather near Agde on the Med.  The other three days were windy, with some cloud, but not bad by British standards.  The rest of France has been very 'iffy' for the whole of the time we've been away.   I know it's a long way, but if you want the sun then it's more than worth the extra drive!

A nice family campsite - Neptune at Grau d'Agde, takes Camping Cheques, so the savings will compensate for the extra fuel, and diesel yesterday was 130 at Cazouls les Beziers!

         I was thinking of the Tarn for the last 2 weeks of June 2013, but you have got me thinking about Agde now.

Oh to do, I must check to see what ACSI campsites are in the area, the location looks ideal, not to close to the crazy Cote d Azur, and not to far over to the Spanish end of the French Med.

And if the climate is going to be good anywhere in France the last 2 weeks of June then where you are is going to get the best of it I guess.

Francais, somewhat sadly you seem to be right about that area, although this morning, in the Creuse, the sky is showing some blue and it looks promising.  Yesterday evening was hot sunshine!. 

Having decided this year to do something different, the weather took us right back to the same area again!  We met people who'd been elsewhere, and who'd had very disappointing weather, and one poor couple had snow!!!!!  I think given the weather elsewhere in France we did well to have so many days of sunshine - though we did both say that the evenings had been colder than in previous years.

Stick to July if you want more settled weather, though!  People who arrived the day before we left (when we knew the weather was going to change) were very disappointed to find it becoming dull and cloudy in the afternoon.

Thanks for your help.  We've decided to take your advice and head straight to the med, therefore next question can anyone recommend a campsite for a family with a baby with direct access to the beach?

We went to the Yelloh Village site at Serignan Plage a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it so was looking at the website and like the look of Le Brasilia.  Can anyone give any views on this site or recommend any other site on the western side of the med (with better weather than here!)?

We're in brittany and it has rained every day for the last 8 days very heavy at times.We had a torrential downpour this afternoon and one caravan's awning collapsed with the weight of water,another with a brand new Swift has water running in from a leak and soaked everything in an underbed storage area.

Sorry to hear about your bad weather, Saxo.  I think we were extremely lucky with our weather.  We had one fabulous day in Paris, one day with rain but we missed every shower, and two days down near Narbonne when it was cold.  After that we had nineteen days of sunshine - into the low thirties.

In the Creuse we had two days of mixed weather - hot sun and cloud, but when the sun went in it was cold.  We had one day when the sun hardly appeared and boy, that was a cold day!  On the way back home yesterday we had a dry morning, but it started to rain at 11.00 and didn't stop until we were in Calais.  Today we've had torrential rain until about five miles from home.  Just back now - take-away for dinner, and two loads of washing done already!
