Hi all

We have recently purchased a tent and are now looking to booking our summer holiday. After much deliberation we have decided to head south to the ardeche region and L'Ardechois has caught our eye, mainly due to the fantastic reviews on here. Unfortunately there are only standerd pitches left to book and we have quite a large tent plus utility tent, so i was just wondering if anyone knows if it will be big enough for our set up?

Many thanks

Can't help with the pitch sizes, but I am sure someone will be along soon with some info.

If you have not been before, then you will not be dissapointed the Ardeche is a superb region, and we are going back for the third time this July.

Here is a live camera link to the region, if you have not already found it, great way of checking the weather down there.

Thank you for the link.

We have been the dordogne and vendee for the last couple of years staying in Static caravans on different sites, but the weather last year was a bit hit and miss, so would like a bit more of a guarantee of sunshine and thought the ardeche looked beautiful.

Don't make the mistake of booking the wrong 'L'Ardechois'!  There are two that I know of, one at Vallon Pont d'Arc and the other at St Saveur -de-Montagut.  We were at Vallon one year, and the couple next to us had booked the St Saveur site instead.  However, they turned up at Vallon and found a pitch anyway, so they were quite happy - but imagine if you turned up at a site without space.

Hi betts 1.

We also used to do static caravans, mostly the Cote d Azur and also the West end of the French Med.

But that was when our Son used to come with us, who is now 27, so it's just the two of us these days.

The statics were starting to get very pricey, and once they got past £500 per week that was it for us, so back in 2009 it was back to doing our own thing with a tent, like what we used to do when we were teenagers back in the late 1970's.

We just love it, and it's nice to be able to arrive at the campsite on say Tuesday, and then depart a fortnight later say on a Thursday, so your not tied to Saturday to Saturday, like you often can be when booking statics.

Thought you would like the link, but it can be adictive.

Betts1
If I was given the choice I would prefer to book a premium pitch but that is not to say there is anything 'wrong' with the standard pitch. The standard pitches are not delimited so you'll be OK as long as the site know how big your tent is. The main thing about the standard pitches is that you could be right next to the wash blocks, but as they are the best kept blocks ever, so your only issue is likely to be the number of people going in and out.
The following is the site map so you can see the pitches.

Also some pictures of the site here f you have not already seen them from previous posts.

Thank you for your replies.

Oliverday thankyou for the site map. It does look like the biggest standard pitches are next to the toilet blocks, but we will just have to wait and see, just waiting for my hubby to get back with a takeaway and then we will let the booking commence!!!

Are there very shallow parts of the river you can access from the site? Is it suitable for younger children to just play around in the shallows without having to go very deep or swim?

There is a fair amount of variety, from very shallow to deep enough to swim. This all depends on the time of year as after a heavy downfall or during the winter the river rises to the point where it is at least a couple of feet deep to a raging torrent. The following is typical state in the Summer and is just upstream of the site...
