Hi, we are in the process of getting our dog his passport. We are getting the ferry from Calais home and need a vet before we leave. Can anyone recommend any? And any tips we need to know about for the ferry journey etc

The dog has to stay unaccompanied in the car on the journey. We found the Maidstone services had a good grassy space for exercise on the way there, and Fort Neuilly in Calais, just down towards the port from the Auchan hypermarche suitable for comfort breaks.

You need the vet 24-48 hours before travel, so not necessarily in Calais.

Since the rule changes this year there isn't really any point worrying about a vet in Calais. Much easier to see the vet at your holiday destination before you leave for home.

Where will you be staying?

In the tunnel the dog stays with you in the car. And its only a 35 minute crossing.

The rule changing up to 5 days before return really takes the pressure off.  We took our chap to the vet the last day before leaving Grasse to come home, had a puncture on day of crossing (only a spacesaver tyre, utter chaos) mad dash then to get to check in before time ran out for the dog.

This time we are taking a proper spare tyre with us, live and learn
