I'm thinking of spending 5 nights on a beautiful campsite in Appenzell in Switzerland www.eischen.ch this August. The area looks beautiful, but Appenzell itself is 2700 feet high, and I'm wondering how cold does it get at night during August?

Has anyone been there, and can anyone advise me on what the temperature is likely to be (my wife doesn't cope very well with the cold!)

Not been there, but we regularly camp near Saas Fee. 2000 /2400 metres.

Can get a bit nippy at night ( not in our TT though  ) really does depend on what the weathers doing, not just the altitude, the last night we where there at the end of August year before last we had frost.

Also can get really hot during the day.

We stayed there about 5 years ago, we looked at that site and it seemed a bit basic for us so went to the other one, called Jacobsbad (I think) we stayed here despite the fact that it was even more basic. It consisted of a lot of permanent caravans built up with wooden cabins attached to them on a farm. The clientele were predominantly retired people. The 'camping' area was a patch of grass in front of a barn. There was toilets and showers and not much else. I've stayed here in mid August in a tent in the middle of a 3 day monsoon of nonstop rain. This weather was however, unseasonal and unexpected. At night it was very cold I have to say, not sure if this was unseasonal like the rain though.
On the plus side, Apenzell is a beautiful small town. There's a cable car up the mountain and a toboggan run. St . Gallen is nearby for supermarkets, etc. We found the supermarkets very expensive so when we went into Austria ( border nearby) we did our shopping there and filled up with petrol- much cheaper.
Apenzell is also very old fashioned, like Europe in the 1950s. We saw nuns dressed in full rigout helping with the hay by hand. The beautiful cows with their old fashioned bells are lovely.
