help!

my girlfriend and I want to go to Brittany camping - were on a budget but have to go early Aug as she is trainee nurse and only time allocated and we can only take a week.

we will have two tents and two cars - unavoidable as we have 6 children between us.

Dover -Calais must be 400miles to drive but other ferry routes to Brittany are working out at £800 for the two cars! I dont want to buy the ferry just want to get to France...

how do you all cope?

Just had a look at Speed Ferries (Sea Cat  Dover to Boulogne)

1 car + up to 5 passengers (outbound 11:15 31-07-05 return 10:30 14-08-05) Total cost £90 for 2 cars I make that a total of £180.00  

Their prices start at £25 each way for car + 5

You can get a lot of petrol and overnight stops for £620

I have a motorhome.  I go to Brittany in Summer and Alps for skiing in winter.

I use Seafrance and book plenty of time in advance on the website (ie you can book now for summer) and travel from Dover to Calais.  You can make it in one day from calais to Brittany using their non-toll roads (like our A roads) or even quicker using their French Motorways (motorways charge a toll).
