We have never had good weather camping, to the point this year our new trailer tent was battered by snow...anyway, trailer tent parts replaced and following poor weather in France last year we thought we would be safer getting the over night ferry and go to Spain...only problem is...the weather does not look great!! To avoid dissapointment and the threat of me ditching camping forever...should we stick with it, or try and head inland etc? We go in a couple of weeks! Thanks H

Unfortunately northern Spain is, like Britain, wet!  If you were going on the Santander/Bilbao crossings then it would make sense to go somewhere in Spain where the weather is better - in which case follow my suggestions below, but with a Spanish newspaper!

However, if you're just getting one of the western channel crossings then on arrival in France buy a paper (Aujord'Hui) or go on line and have a look at the weather forecast (back page on Aujord 'Hui and La Chaine Meteo on line!).  See where the best forecast is, and head in that direction.  It may actually be the area you're already in, but if not then you stand a chance of finding some better weather.  If you haven't already booked a longer crossing then book one of the shorter crossings instead - DFDS are the cheapest at the moment!  You can still head off towards 'The Sun', hopefully, but have saved some money to boot!

It's what we do every time we go to France.  Your only problem is that you're going in peak season, and it may not be so easy to find pitches in the larger and more popular sites, in larger and more popular areas.  However, if you buy Le Guide Officiel then you can find out of the way places where you will have a much better chance of getting a pitch.

The forecast for 9th July, which is as far as La Chaine Meteo goes, shows almost all of Spain, except the North western coast as having BRILLIANT sunshine.  In fact in some areas, probably too hot for most of us, especially little ones!  Perhaps when you go the forecast may be better in Northern Spain too.  Two weeks is still a long way off, and you may find you're worrying without need.

If you can be flexible, though, and if the bad weather would spoil your holiday, an extra day in the car is more than worth it!

Barcelona towing will take more like 8-81/2 hours , we came back from Vilanoava park earlier this year and it took longer than expected so allow a bit more time .
if your looking for a nice site in Northern Spain you won't go far wrong with Playa Joyel

Neil currently at St. Neots C&CC site

In six years of summer hols on the north coast of Spain, we've always had wonderful weather ... couple of days of rain ... especially in the Picos (mountains can be variable) ... but always worth it.
Do not be put off ... and don't think about the long trek over to Barcelona ... madness!!
Look at other threads on North Coast of Spain for ideas ...

Just back from a few days in Northern Spain. San Sebastian and Burgos. The weather was fantastic, though at times to hot, Burgos last Sunday was 35c.

In my opinion the Bay of Rosas on the Costa Brava (Med) is perfect for family camping - I have been going since 1979 firstly as a child then as a parent. In over 20 visits to the region, I think that over 90% of the time it has been sunny and rain free. The sea is also warm and safe for children and beaches are excellent. However, there i no point going to Santander or Bilboa as the drive is nearly as long as from Calais (It is around 12 hours drive from Calais)

North West Spain is supposed to be very nice too, however, it is on the Atlantic, which is cooler and has a wetter climate (like the west coast of the UK) - Although in summer months it is rare to have a very wet holiday, I would expect 75% sunshine

If you see a Brit or a German once a week ... you'll be unlucky!
