First we went to the Dordogne. ( Tip - don't ever book a reclining seat with L.D Lines cos you get no sleep ). The seats are next to the bar which is lively til the early hours .Some people seem to want to start their trip getting drunk . Not a good way to start a holiday.
Really long drive from Le Havre to the Dordodgne but worth it. The place was beautiful and hot hot hot. 36 degrees some days. We spent most the time looking for shade or in the pool.Fantastic site
Next up to the Loire. We knew it would be a let down because the Dordogne had been so perfect , nothing would match it. The site was ok but the weather pretty naff. Warm but overcast and a bit of rain.
We'll definitely do the Dordogne again but book a cabin .

Why not try Portsmouth/Caen. It's slightly less travel but if you take an afternoon ferry you are in France about 9.30pm. Use the small site on the edge of town about 3 minutes from the docks to overnight. Then set off for the Dordogne the next morning. That way you miss out the cost of the cabin and the afternoon ferry generally does free caravan offers.
really glad to hear you enjoyed the Dordogne and had good weather. Did you have a problem with mossies as read somewhere else they are rife in the Dordogne after all the rain of the last month.

Domaine du Verdon Castellane and Etoile d'Argens Frejus Aug

Which site in the Dordgne? looking at the weather for the next few weeks that sounds perfect!
We were at Camping Capeyrou. Beynac et Cazenac. Best site ever, you wouldn't be disappointed. Beynac village is a few minute walk from the site, restaurants etc. We only used the car to go to the super market

Oh yes the mozzies were terrible.I have a bad reaction to bites as well. My hands were deformed for about 4 days, had to take massive doses of antihisamenes.

This is one of the sites we're very keen on going to, the safari tents look superb and having the town so close for the odd evening meal/beer is very appealing! Did you get a look at the tents on-site?
------------- October '12 - La Croix and Disneyland Paris..
We've also just got back from Le Capeyrou in Beynac - wonderful site (need to do a review) and great weather - but definitely take some insect repellent, the mosquitos were evil!!

Yes we had a look at them, only 2 i think. They looked lovely. Nice decking area with some lovely furniture on them. They seemed nicely placed as well.
