Toying with the idea of 10 days in the Moselle area early September.
Can anyone recommend a good site in the area, preferably with a river view.
Thanks in advance.

I can't help you with a campsite but I am sure their will be some its a great area to visit and I would think most of the sites in that area will have a view of the Moselle and while you are there take advantage of the great wine its made all the way down the Moselle Valley.I am sure you will have great holiday.Ian

It's a really beautiful area - one of my favourites.

A good central site near the river is in Bernkastel-Kues. It's a lovely old town (actually two towns) with cafes, restaurants etc... You'd be well placed for Trier or Koblenz / Rhine in the other direction. Trier has sites - not sure about Koblenz.

The Bernkastel-Kues wine festival is Aug 30 - Sept 3rd.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.

We stayed in This place way back in the 70's, but it was very close to the centre of Cochem and as I recall, on the banks of the Moselle, very close to the open air pool. (FreiBad)

Easy access to the centre and a lovely town.

You don't want to be on the banks of the Moselle as it can be like the M1 at night.

Hi, I just had to read your post on here regarding the Moselle, as I’ve been there many times, but not camping or with the caravan. It’s already been mentioned already about how beautiful  Bernkastel-Kues and Cochem are, and I agree, something does grip you around that area, that wants to make you go back again!

What’s annoying me is, the last time I was stayed down the Moselle, I come across a camp site that was out in the middle of the river! I remember you drove out onto it, and it was a big camp site, but I liked the fact you was surrounded by water. Ive was trying to find it with google maps etc, but im having no luck.

Bridgelayer posted camp site on the Moselle that I was already looking at, so if you do go that direction, I would be interested in any feedback you have? The beer festival sounds good, Im in France around those date’s so I won’t make it this year, but maybe next!!

September in Cochem is or can be manic. Make sure you book well in advance

We went there on what I believe was the last day of the wine season, whether it was picking or making, I don't know. The place was rocking - before mid-day - and it went on all weekend. The kids loved it nearly as much as we did. Don't miss the chair lift from the top of the vineyards.

Another place well worth a visit in that area is on the Rhine, a little town called Kónigswinter. We went there on the same weekend and every pub seemed to have an "Oompah Band" playing. We walked from there to the top of the hill and found an old place called Drachenfels, an old Schloss where a dragon was slayed by some folk hero.

We're probably going to pass that way next year on the way down south.
