Now that our main summer holidays are over we're starting to focus on our week in La Croix this October. I have been reading reviews this weekend and alot seem to be saying the Keycamp statics are poor. We're booked into a Villanova with decking, i spoke to Keycamp and i can get the top of the range van for an extra £70. My question to you guys who have experienced keycamp statics throughout France, or more specifically La Croix, is it worth me upgrading to a better van?
This is our first venture into static'ing abroad and its taken me a fair amount of nagging to get there, so as i'm sure you understand i want it to be a hassle free break for us(my wife!)
Thanks in advance folks..

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
we stayed in a villanova 29 about 4 years ago at Berny. It was fine, not luxurious but clean and tidy. It was also in a great location (on the edge of the first lake)

I think it depends on how much space you need...their top of the range one will be more spacious but not necessarily in better condition!!...we stayed in a canvas millenium at Berny in 2007 which was their top of the range and it was dreadful!!!

We have stayed in a Villanova with decking at La Croix a few times in October. They are as Savanne says around the 1st lake or on the opposite side of the 'road' which runs through the park. They are on individual plots with hedging not like some of the vans which share a plot.
They are clean with 'cosy' bedrooms, but we had no issues with them. Can be chilly at night as the one source of heating is a gas fire at one end of the van which just warms that area. We usually take a portable fan heater to take the chill off the bedrooms and bathroom at night.
The decking is a good size too and on the warmer days in October have bbq'ed and eaten lunch on the decking.
Enjoy!
I was on this site in late JULY last year and we had to have the fire on in the evening! Bloomin chilly, not far south at all of course but still cooler than I had expected. Wouldn't stay there again, it was only a base for a Disney and Paris daytrip holiday, but would def use Lifestyle Holidays again. We stayed in a Saphire 2-bed static which was bigger and better than any Canvas 3 bed we've had over the years. Check them out if you can when you're there; Keycamp, Canvas etc will never seem the same again. And they are much cheaper... you could probably book a week with them in October still for under 200 quid easily (just checked, £161) Lifestyle Holidays
I assume in early October the site will be very quiet, so if our van is unsuitable or too small, then we could possibly inspect the higher ranged vans and pay the difference to change if they are free. Its only really a base for DLP and Paris, but when i'm onsite i'm going to have a right good nose around the levels of accommodation offered by all companies to plan what level of accommodation we want for next year and who to choose to stay with..
I assume alot of the on-site stuff is still open early Oct - pools etc? As said not too bothered if they aren't but it would be good for the kids to blow off steam..

I'm not too sure it WILL be very quiet on that site in October. I reckon the majority of visitors are there for the Disney/Paris connection, and that's an all year round thing. Good idea re. having a good nose round, and please ask the Lifestyle rep to let you see inside theirs (I don't work for them, only stayed with them once!)
Reasons I WOULDN'T go back to La Croix are a) my kids are too old. b) I don't (ever!) plan on going back to Disney. c) It's not far south enough for me
None of those reasons would bother another family with younger kids. Incidentally, my brother is there right now with his 3 (5, 7 and 10) and they are having a great time.
Cheers FC - i mind you emailed me alot of information about your stay and it was most helpful
My kids are 4+5 so it should be good for them and to be honest this is my first and no doubt last DLP trip
La Croix shuts down late October does it not? Also keycamp mentioned they were very quiet with booking for that time of the year..but as we know this can change very quickly!
I reckon next year we will be heading more towards your usual haunt in the vendee, hopefully to get some sunshine and good beaches - so i fully intend to check out lifestyle as they are consistently cheaper than most of the others. The only reason i didn't chose them this year as i got it through keycamp uber cheap for our week..

Hi there, yes I do remember emailing you, hope all went well, or will go well if it is La Croix that we discussed.
Vendee is my fav, 5 times now although that may be about to come to a halt now, in fact you may be able to help me on my next holiday plan! My wife and 2 kids have insisted that next year for a change we try a 2 week package hol to somewhere hot (which france was decidedly NOT this month, lol). I wouldn't know where to start but I have already worked out that it ain't going to be very different price-wise than France was. Kids will be 16 and 17 next July so things are different now than when thye were under 10.
Only reason we didn't do Lifestyle this year was that they were not on our chosen site.
F.C - We're not the typical package holiday types. We tend to go off the beaten track a fair bit, hire cars and see the proper parts of Greece, Turkey, Spain etc. We're just back from Greece, 2 weeks of scorching temps (40+ degrees) and it was brilliant - so i reckon i'm p*ssing into the wind to get the family to France next summer...but time will tell.
As to who to use...so many to choose from!? Recently we've used;
http://www.jamesvillas.co.uk/ they were brilliant and maybe a better option seeing as you would be charged as 4 adults..
http://www.thomson.co.uk/
http://www.thomascook.com/
http://www.barrheadtravel.co.uk/ To name a few for package holidays..
Another option depending on where you want to go, http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/ are also very good, you deal with the owners and organise your own flights..
I simply cannot look past Turkey or Greece now for destinations(flying) as the people are tremendous, food great and stunning scenery

We've stayed in a villanova and if you're not too fussy it will be fine...I always find them to be in need of a damn good clean, but when you consider that most of the keycamp/eurocamp couriers are nothing more than kids you can't expect them to be spotless.
