Hi

Just packing ready for our venture down to Le Peyrelade by Millau. does anyone have any advice about the weather? it's looking hot but wondered what evenings are like. Do I need to pack jeans and long sleeve tops / fleeces?

All help welcome!

At the lip of the gorge it can be almost 3000 ft up. At the bottom it should be warm depending on when you are there.

Funny summer this though.  I would prepare for everything but check out a long term forecast and it will probably be completely wrong.

Was lovely at the top when we were there but can be windy at height.  Lovely views of the Vultures though - sometimes below you.

It might be very hot indeed at Peyrelade!  We've been in that area with temperatures in the high thirties.  It's not likely to be cold at this time of year, except in very exceptional circumstances.

We've never worn fleeces or jeans and have been visiting the area in July/August for around 6 years. Even on cloudier/rainy days we have not been cold. We once used a duvet at Val de Cantobre as it got slightly chilly around 3 in the morning but apart from that no issues.However. I always pack for all eventualities! I have said that I am going to seriously cull the amount of clothes we take this year though.

Have a great time. We are off to Les Peupliers in just under 3 weeks and are extremely excited!!

We were near there last August (and going back again this year) and never needed jeans/fleeces, etc. in the evenings. I always pack for every weather eventuality but can honestly say we did not need any of it. We had sleeping bags, but most nights slept on top of them. You will be fine.

We there last year in around the second week of September and it was very warm in the day, around high 20's to 30. Occasionally late in the evening we would put on a fleece so we could stay outside rather than go in the tent.

It's a lovely area and the bridge is stunning.....

Last time we were in a trailer tent - the weather was beautiful and that was in September. Not cold at all at night.

It depends a lot on the water level.  I could attach some photos of the Tarn just up river, and just down river from the site, and there are some 'minor' rapids just down from the site.  We canoe up river, usually, then haul the boat out over one section where there is a waterfall, and then you can carry on almost up to Peyrelau.  However, at certain times the water level has been really low (or really high).

I'll look some up tonight and post them on here when I've a spare moment.

You ought to try the longer 22 km descent down from Les Vignes - the campsite run a trip, where they take you up in a minibus and then you canoe back down.  It's an early morning start, but a great day out.  The views in the Gorge are fabulous.  We've done it in our own inflatable with no problems.

These were all taken with relatively low levels of water in the Tarn.

1. Setting off from the rocks at Les Peupliers:

2. Just towards the top of the Les Peupliers site:

320

3.  Chateau du Peyrelade and reflection, upriver from Les Peupliers:

320

Those were all our 'messing about on the river' sections.

The following is taken when we canoed back from Les Vignes to Les Peupliers.

1. Between Les Vignes and Peupliers - picnic beach

240

Hi, we've just come back from Le Rozier and had a brilliant time so thanks for all the suggestions and tips Val A, Lizzie and co.

Temperature at night: well, we did have some chilly evenings despite some very hot days, and one not so good (but useful for visiting the caves). I wore trousers a couple of times at night, plus a hoodie and a shawl to sit out whilst watching the fabulous stars. Overnight, I found my sleeping bag was sufficient, although I did use a blanket as well once or twice. Maybe we just hit an odd spell? We did have one very warm night.TBH, we quite liked the cooler nights as it was easier to sleep.

Also, before the sun got high, it was quite cool in the mornings if you didn't sit in a sunny spot.

I'll post a review of the site and maybe some photos (we've not downloaded from the camera yet as only arrived home on Sunday). Canoeing was wonderful - as was wild swimming. We saw a crayfish at one spot.

I want to go back... now. Have a fab time
