As our yearly holiday "camping in France this year" is slowly coming upon us, i'm all for toll dodging. Not so much because of the money, more the fact that if i'm driving, i'd like to have the opportunity to enjoy the countryside (as well as some impromptu scenic stop overs!!), however...

I'm slogging my guts out working at the Olympics and when I get home i've got two clear days before I have to crack on with driving slightly south of Loches in to the Loire Valley, for the beginning of this years camping experience..

So.. Popping the details in to a route planner, it shows the route that avoids Paris as being similar in time to the Paris route. I've already been advised on here on some sensible routes however. As i'm already tired out, i'm starting to think the quickest route (cost aside) may be my best option. Which I suspect would involved the tolls i've been trying to avoid..

So. What's the toll cost? I can't find a reliable way of finding out. If it's £40 then I might play the game.. £100 and i'm not happy..

Any views.?

All the route planner give the toll cost - sometimes the exchange rate is not absolutely up to date, but it will give you a broad idea of costs.  Don't forget if you're towing to select 'With caravan' as an option or the toll will show for a solo car.

I think I might just do 'some' toll roads.

I'm just thinking about the time more than anything as the first journey is purely a matter of getting there in as good a time as is reasonable. After that leisurely pace with a bit of site seeing is ideal!

I wouldn't mind stumbling across a nice looking campsite rather than simply heading to specifics just because the picture looks nice.

Itching to get out of the Uk at the moment!!!

As a route planner with an 'optimal' tolls option - some toll bits around worst potential traffic jams - it may be handy.
We are heading down through Loire Valley, stopping off at Vendome for the night on our way towards Gueret.

BTW...Awaiting delivery of that cool box as wel,l and may have to test with Vodka as you suggested - needs must!

We go to St Flovier twice a year our toll dodging route is Rouen, Evreux, Dreux, Chartres, Chateaudon, Blois You can make reasonable progress only hit a jam once, not a really bad one at that. We never go during peak season tho.
