Finished it at long last, only been back a month! We went as far as Rome via France, Germany and Austria both ways. It can be viewed here There are loads of photos so if you have a slow connecting it might take a second or two to load. All the small pictures can be clicked on for a larger image. Hope you enjoy and of course I am happy to answer any questions anyone should have.

David this absolutely brilliant, the photos of Venice are just so gorgeous. I have been lucky enough to go there 5 times now, but the beauty of it never ends.
I am looking forward to reading all the information on there.

What a fabulous write up David. Thanks for sharing.

Our middle girl groomed for one of the Agnelli family near Roma at one point and we visited and had a day in the city. We still talk of the almost solid shaft of sunlight in St Peter's. Almost spiritual.

We've honeymooned in Tuscany, holidayed in Sorrento, and the youngest is off to the Amalfi coast in a few weeks, but not before she comes with us to Spain tomorrow. It will be lovely, but oh, Roma....

One day we'll return. Thanks for refreshing the memories

Fab blog David, such a lot of work has gone into it. We were in Rome for the first time in June for a week -not camping though. Had a smashing time. I fancy Venice next, not been there and your pictures have inspired a visit. I'm gutted that we'll not manage our 3 week European camping break this year - for various reasons - but a definate again for next year.

Interesting what you say about Rome - we were there for a long weekend in March and loved the place but we were in a central hotel so only saw the outskirts on the train in from the airport and it did look grim...

I'm more concerned with your pics of some of the sites - they really squeeze people in, which is worrying as we're taking our first trip to Germany in a couple of weeks and my wife likes her privacy. Hopefully, they're not all that bad...

Thanks once again, David, for a fabulous write-up, I read it all last night and really enjoyed it, as usual.

Very sorry to hear about the pickpocket episode, as you say, you think you have covered every eventuality, but these people are so incredibly slick.

Not been to Rome, but went to Venice whilst staying at Lake Garda, by train, a lovely journey there and back and Venice of course was fabulous.

Great blog David. Venice is nice, we had a weekend there followed by 12 day cruise. Sailing out of Venice is great-it was a sunny day when we left!

fantastic David. I throughly enjoyed reading it and your photos once again are really excellent. MIL recently diagnosed with cancer and has been very unwell in hospital for weeks. One of her favourite places is Venice, shes allowed out for a few hours on Sat afternoon and I intend to show her your pics which will cheer her up. Shes a big fan of Murano glass.

I'm glad I read this nice report on my home.

Observations on the traffic of Rome are very nice and true.

Traffic in Rome is really very stressful for us all, and the public transportation are really disgusting.

I am very sorry for pickpocketing: this is a common thing and unfortunately unpunished.

Who will be in Rome soon I could suggest some good typical restaurant away from the tourist circuits.

While I hope to return soon to your beautiful country. To tell the truth I was only 3 times in London and Liverpool
