We are looking to leave tomorrow/the next day for Europe. We can take ferry/tunnel to any of these SE England short trip destinations - i.e. Holland and Northern France.

We will be going for a week or maybe 8-9 days with 2 kids 10 and 5. Don't want to drive excessively far given the time frame.

Priorities are:

dry weather
something to keep the kids amused be it playground, swimming pool/river/sea whatever
not too noisy/chavvy

Any suggestions?

Have a look at La Chaine Meteo which gives you the weather forecast for the next ten days, and it might help you make up your mind where you want to be.

You can select countries other than France if you want to see the weather elsewhere.

Well we went and it rained a bit, but not disruptive, soooo much warmer than the UK, don't think we will camp in the UK again (well maybe for a weekend at short notice with guaranteed sunshine)

I watch the weather near Amsterdam because my son lives there and it always seems to be nice.
This is a live web cam they never seem to have weather as bad as here. I may be wrong though.

I don't know if this link will work.
It's a nice country and if you don't like it you can move on to Belgium Germany or France.

Well if you check on the Thursday/Friday you can see if it's going to be sunny at the weekend,

Not my experience. Same as here really.

La Palmyre, Poitou-Charentes

Slightly tacky town, temperatures around 23C mostly, warm in the sunshine. No dew in the mornings which is nice.

Nice zoo in the town. Lots of oysters around.

Yelloh Village site (newly acquired), nicely landscaped, awful French entertainment till after midnight six nights per week, generally nice though. Chose the site in the motorway service station on wifi, it was the most convenient one with availability so we just turned up there having checked the Siblu nearby (very concretey) and it was nice so we stayed there.

Food in French supermarkets cheaper than here and much better. Went out to Nandos yesterday having come back couldn't get over how much they charge for alcohol in this country in comparison

Mwahahahahahaha

Our first French family holiday [about 16 yrs ago] was to La Palmyre

The entertainment was incredibly cringingly bad then too - even before they gave the microphones to morons in an attempt to karaoke. It was like a scene out of Apocalypse Now - still - an experience that makes me chuckle

The 'entertainment' was something like this:

Two nights per week - disco till about 00:30
One night - karaoke, all awful French songs, a group of French youths sang some sort of comedy sex song (complete with video with Benny Hill-style scenes of woman in lingerie), not quite sure what it was about
One night - dreadful French lounge singer, singing to a backing track, when he left they put the disco on instead
One night - rock band, guitar not bad but singer's accent very strong and couldn't sing

There was another along the same lines I don't quite recall. All of these basically permeated the entire campsite with loud music till just after midnight so they weren't really distinguishable. Had a games room with some pinball machines in, which were €2 for 5 games, which I thought was not so bad, except one of the rubbers in the machine I was playing had snapped and the ball kept getting stuck there, which meant lost ball because you had to tilt the machine to get it out which locked it up. Must have lost about 8 balls this way, the attendant just tilted the machine and shrugged his shoulders in a Gallic way, no hint that I might get some extra credits to compensate, oh well that's French service for you, if it had been more expensive, or in England, I would have complained, if you start by assuming the service will be bad in France you don't get peeed off by it.

Thursday was barbecue night, so no noise, but then they decided to do rehearsal on the lighthouse next door for the acrobatic show (the real thinghave been Friday night, the day we left), this involved acrobats and lots of playing with their levels of the ominous music, so it would be silent for a while but then at 1am they turned it up very loud, which woke up my daughter who vomited all over her sleeping mat.

Oh no - they dropped the drag act?????????????
It was stunningly bad - people were shocked into silence apart from our daughter aged about 4 who laughed out loud from start until we escaped.

We did the area a couple of times but having been several places since I'd now say it is our least favoured area of France - beaches are great but 90% of our negative experiences of France have been in that area.

What negative experiences have you had there? TBH I expect the French to be rude, to not queue, to pretend not to speak English, and I'm never disappointed.
