Hi
Just want to warn anyone going here about their mozzie problem. We stayed the night before last and were eaten alive. Despite diving for cover and sealing the tent/killing any inside the tent, 3 out of 5 of us are covered in bites (20+ each) and 2 of us have had very nasty reactions to the bites and are using anti-histamines, bug zapper and ammonia to try to deal with them. They are really painful.

I have written a site review but just wanted to make anyone using the site aware.

On a brighter note, we camped by a river in Le Vigan with not a bite between us.

We were there last july and had no poblems at all, think it depends on the weather, humidity etc. not a mozzie in sight at that particular time, didnt like the site though and wouldnt stay there again although easy access on train into paris.Jx

We'd have had to have the repellent on before we got out of the car. We wouldn't have had chance to apply it before being bitten otherwise - though we may well have had fewer bites! I'm always a magnet for anything that bites so I was surprised that I'd had none when we were camping by a river and spent 2 days canoeing. I've never experienced a 'mozzie attack' of this nature before.

Interestingly, we stayed at this site for the first night of our hols on the way down through France and weren't bitten by mozzies at all. Different pitch, though.

Discovered an interesting treatment for bite reactions on t'internet. Apply hot air from hairdryer on affected area until it starts to hurt - bingo, itching gone! I was sceptical, but it seems to work for me, and better than anti-histamine cream.

Commenters suggested that the irritants were chemically changed by the heat.

Now if we could find a simple deterrent .... I seem to recall on these pages that vitamin B, Marmite, or Gralic were good; similarly the Avon handcream. I'm often surprised that I get bitten when first arriving in France, but then seem to develop resistance, whether dietary or otherwise.
