Our dog (a Lab)has travelled all over France with us in years past, and we've found the vet's fees for pet passport completion for return to the UK has varied quite a bit (between 55 -75 euros).

Now that Defra has relaxed the requirements and we only need to ensure tapeworm treatment, I anticipated the cost would come down quite a bit. I also thought French vets would realise that the rules for pet passport have changed and we no longer need the tick treatment. I was wrong on both counts: the vet we went to last week claimed he needed to administer the tick treatment, until I told him things had changed, and he charged 48 euros for 2 x white Milbemax tablets.

What has anyone else paid for dog wormer, this year?

We took and used our own worming tablets and the vet charged us 25 euros.

I paid 45 euros for the worm tablet to be given on Saturday morning at a vets near le Touquet.

Does it matter what brand of tapeworm tablet you have with you? I might try taking my own next year.

End of July we took our own Milbemax tablets and were charged 45 euros for two dogs. Vets 30 mins inland from Calais.

€30 ish can't remember exact amount. She knew about the changes as well.

Vet just outside Vallon Pont d'Arc, July this year.

In June we were charged €30 for the worming tablet. The Vet was not aware of the changes and tried to give a dose of Frontline as well.

When we got to the pet check in at the the Tunnel there were A4 print outs of the new regs in both French and English - shame that the Vets hadn't seen them

IMHO, €30 to administer a tablet is B. expensive

We used Drontal.

We stayed at 4 Vents as we were going to DLP. E-mailed the owner, Francoise and she and her daughter, Agnes (who were very helpful) made the appointment for us with the vet :- Dr. Jean Degauchy.

We used a vet in Ardres, near Calais about 10 days ago. I took my own Droncit tapeworm tablet, but the dog had grown since my vet prescribed it, and needed a larger dose! So, the French vet gave Milbemax.

The cost inc the Milbemax for an 11kg dog was 37 euros, which would have been 30 euros if my own treatment was used.

I treated for ticks with Frontline before leaving UK.

Sounds good! Who/where was that, please?

We took our own wormer: Milbemax chewable - which we never have any problem giving her - only the vet gave 2 x white Milbemax instead, washed down with a syringe of water (we had no idea he was going to do that, until it was too late and he was chugging it down our dog's throat) which our girl absolutely hated!

We won't be using that vet again!

We applied Advantix before leaving the UK and again before crossing back (were there for over a month), despite the new regulations. We just don't want to risk her getting and bring back ticks, with all the risks that go with them.

Does anyone else still use tick treatment, even though it's no longer a passport requirement?

We were advised by a friend who has a holiday home near Bordeaux, to use Scalibor collars on our dogs when we went to France this year. They protect against ticks, sand flies and mosquitoes. One collar lasts 6 months but takes a week or so to reach full protection. Ours have been wearing them since July and have not had one single tick. We spend a lot of time walking in the Lakes and the Peak district and are always finding ticks so we are very impressed with the collars. Some users complain of skin lesions and hair loss but we have not encountered any problems. They are not advised if you also have cats.

It was a place called Le Cheylard in the southern end of Northern Ardeche. An amazing location round there, can't understand why everyone always goes to the heaving south!!
