Hi all,

We're planning on doing Roscoff to the Dordogne next year with a caravan, so as I will be the one doing the driving, I plan to have an overnight stop on the way down.

Am I best booking a site for one night, or hoping to find an Aire somewhere for the overnight stop?

If stopping at an Aire is the better option, where do I find a list of addresses for them?

You can't stop at a motorhome aire(Aire du campingcar)with a caravan. If you mean motorway services also known as aires you will find them on any motorway at intervals much the same as UK. You would be better to stop at a campsite overnight though, plenty in France & no need to book.

Post up your route & approximately where you want to stop for the night & I'm sure somebody can recommend a campsite.

I do smile at people planning now, ten or eleven months ahead, for an overnight stop for next year. We usually start thinking of that about 3 pm on the day in question.

3pm is far to early to be worrying about things like that..

I am usually a last minute planner, but I'm still so excited over our holiday just gone that I can't help but plan the next one.

If the ferries didn't cost so much, I'd be off every weekend

Many of the smaller municipal sites aren't set up to take advance bookings - they are mainly used by people travelling from place to place, for overnight stops.  You need a good campsite guide, or download campsite POIs from Archie's Campings and then it's easy to know whereabouts all the local sites are when you want to stop.
