There are quite a number of sites around that part of the Rhine, but one thing you should be aware of is that the majority of them are are on banks of the Rhine, which offer gorgeous views, but unfortunately the railway line runs alongside the Rhine, and the trains thunder through 24/7. (Hence my reason for picking the above site).

One thing you must do on your visit is a trip down the Rhine on one of the steamers. We went from Boppard to Rudesheim, picked a lovely sunny day, and it was absolutely beautiful.

We stayed on a site right on the Rhine at Boppard and agree with Eddie about the noise, we found it very distracting. If that sort of thing bothers you look for sites not so close to the railway or where the railway goes through a tunnel. Google Earth can help. We have also stayed at a site in Rudesheim which was quieter as the Rhine is wider there. We loved watching the river traffic going up and down.

We picked a terrific one for our first Rhine campsite.. Not.

Railway line 'both' sides of the river, heavy barges chugging all night (throbbing ! )

Flight path for somewhere or other & on top of that at 2 am in the morning, local fire station got a call out, ear splitting siren, & as it was chucking it down with rain, I thought it was a flood alarm  .

Check well before hand.

I don't mind the barges, I find them quite soothing. The gentle throb of a diesel engine pushing against the stream.

Hi stayed here http://www.camping-freizeitzentrum-brey.de/ for  two nights on way down to Bavaria.  Its about 4 miles North of Boppard.

On the banks of the Rhine so great views.  Had batch overlooking the Rhine.  Pitches are a bit small but adequate for us.  Nothing particularly special but fine.  Site had a bar that served food but didn;t use it.

We stayed at Burgh lahneck last year - high up above the Rhine, but the owner is very bossy and there are lots of rules and regulations.

He chooses your pitch.  We originally said we would be staying for 5days and he put us on a pitch overlooking the town and the large supermarket.   Others, mostly Germans ,who arrived later for one or two nights were put on fantastic pitches looking right down the river.

You have to pitch exactly where he tells you - he even puts a leaf down EXACTLY where the jockey wheel must go!!  electric cables have to go over the fence.

There are loudspeakers on the roof over reception - it reminded us of another sort of German camp!!     We loved the area , but moved on after 3 days.

A very nice Belgian family pitched next to us, but after he told their 2 v well behaved children off for playing with a ball, they left the next day.
