Hello all,

We have only been caravanning for a year and have decided we would like to go to France at the beginning of October. We have a 3 year old and a dog, we plan to get the ferry to Calais but that is as far as we have got. We would love to see some sun but have no idea what the weather will be like in the different areas. Any advice, site recommendations, tips on keeping kids happy in the car etc would be hugely appreciated! Also any info on how expensive it is for food over there whether to cook in the van or restaurants wouldn't go amiss, similar to here or more expensive?

Thank you very much in advance!

Lynsey

To get some sun you have to travel south. The further south the better the sun. France is a big place though.
How far are you willing to drive?
What do you want of your site & area?

Begining of October you are limiting your options as many sites are closing.

We tend to cater for ourselves with occasional meals out. It's generally about similar prices to UK.

as mentioned above - the further the better.  Provence shoiuld be an ideal spot    Depends if you expect to travel that far and if you have the time to go so far

We also self cater - but we find the French supermarkets more expensive overall -  the beer , wine  are cheaper but meat  cheese  bread is more expensive

try using camping cheques - google it - and sites will be cheaper

Thanks for your responses. I have the camping cheques brochure but like you've said a lot of the sites will be closed from the end of September. We'd be willing to do 9 hrs or so from calais over the course of 2 days with an over night stop. I'll have a look at Provence, thanks!
