Only downside may be the road up to the site which is very steep to tow a caravan. Having said that there are always caravans in evidence. I don't know what you can and can't do with a caravan.
hugandpenny have a look at ACSI Camping Card site at Bishofswiesen named Winkle-Landthal situated just outside Bertchesgaden. It is in easy reach of Salzburg too. The whole area is loaded with interesting and pretty places to visit. We have been going there for 35 years with caravan and without. There should be a review of this site on this Forums. If you want to know anything about the area and places to visit let me know your email address and I will contact you. The other ACSI campsite mentioned in the above post is OK but approach road for caravan is not good being steep hill with S bends. We did have a look at this but preferred the location of Bishofswiesen
Lark1, thank you for your post, have had a quick look. Hughandpenny at virginmedia.com is our email. Have you seen the road to the other site how bad is it? Look forward to hearing from you.

When we went up to view the site we decided it was not worth trying with the caravan as it is a large 8 metre one. The site when I contacted them by email said they could send a tractor down to help on the very steep. sharp S bend.
