Just some thoughts on St Malo gained from a couple of journeys in 2012. 1. Once the previous ferry has left you can turn up with a caravan and park in the queue ready for the next one if you want. We turned up at 19.45 ready for 10.00 a.m. the following day. The downside to this is that the lorries do the same and are about 20 foot away so their refrigeration units can be disturbing. 2. If you have a camper van there is a better campers parking area only 100 yards away. Drive as if you are going into the ferry queue, but at the last moment keep going round the roundabout and take the next turning. This will take you onto a no through road where campers are allowed after 19.00, you are then but a minute from the queue with a beautiful view of the bay but no facilities. 3. Also for small campervans park in the diving school car park, sign posted. Go through into the big parking area the height barrier has been broken so the locals can get their vans in. No view of the bay here though. 4. The camping municpal les ilots is on the edge of town but only a couple of hundred yards from the commerces of Leclerc a garage and restaurants. Very helpful staff and site is clean and secure. Open most of the year too. Drive back to the port in about 10 minutes.
