I also await the inevitable backlash, but just try to see this from the OP's viewpoint. He's new to the forum, he asks a straightforward, but very specialised question, and gets a not strictly relevant horror story in reply. There does seem to be a slight tendency on this forum to discourage people from going anywhere slightly unusual. The Atlantic coast of Spain? You don't want to go there, it always rains. Driving to southern Spain? Why not stick to the South of France, it's not so far. Albania? You must be mad. (Yes, that's a reply I got, although nobody who commented had actually done it, or even knew anyone who had.) We've recently driven through Bosnia and I didn't dare ask for advice beforehand in case I got more negativity. In fact it was fine. This guy is a fulltimer. This may well mean he's been to all sorts of places that the majority wouldn't dream of going to - no disrespect to them, it's not everyone's choice. But what he wants is specific information from someone with the appropriate knowledge, not anecdote. Let's encourage people to go to more adventurous locations by pointing out the advantages, not the disadvantages. There's a terrific world out there, sometimes scary, but always worth trying. OK, bring on the brickbats! I'll get my coat.
