Please help. My partner is a teacher and so we are restricted to school hloidays and so I is always expensive.

I am looking fo recmmendations for a site that is reasonably high with short drive to the piste or near ski lifts to main resort.

There is a very nice campsite in Geillo in Norway......but perhaps just too far for half term!

This is 'second hand' information, but my sons snowboard and their friend ski at Les Contamines in the French Alps, each 'After Christmas before New Year' and they always want us to take our caravan, and have said that there is a campsite, Le Pontet, inthe valley, nearby which is open in the winter.

It's not a 'mega-expensive' resort either - last year they were unable to book the accommodation they wanted in Les Contamines, and went elsewhere - finding the prices of everything much higher wherever it was they ended up. (Good job we hadn't booked to take our caravan to Les Contamines that year!!!).

In summer 2011 we were passing through Austria en route to Italy and stayed at Panorama Camping, Pettneu. Not being winter sports types, we were amazed to find it was popular in winter with skiers, and as a result the showers etc were very much under cover so they would be warm in winter. It was quite a basic site, but there is a very much more luxurious one nearby called simply Camping Arlberg (www.camping-arlberg ) which looks amazing - each pitch has its own little bathroom, and all very much geared up to winter conditions. Apparently, Pettneu is the home of Alpine skiing.

Vals recommendation of the site at Les Contamines is a good one. We spent one very snowy half term there. The telecabine is very close to the site and we thoroughly enjoyed the skiing there.

If you search my other posts you will find information on a number of sites that would suit you.

Taking the caravan was the only way we could afford ski holidays whilst the boys were growing up, it used to be a very cheap way of doing it but increased fuel prices have changed the equation somewhat.
