I know people dont believe me, but honestly, we have always had good weather in Carnac, we have been there 4 x 2 weeks over the years and never had more than one bad day in the fortnight!

Over many years of visiting Du Letty at Benodet for 4-5 weeks holidays in July-August we have usually had VERY GOOD weather. In both 2011 and 2012 we had mainly good weather. I did notice a BIG difference, however, when in 2011 we split our hols with 2 weeks on the North coast of Brittany and 2 weeks at Benodet. The North coast was much cooler and much windier than Benodet.
I would say that 2012 weather was not as good as some of our previous stays with more dull days, it was however, still far better weather than we found when we stayed at St Pol de Leon for several nights on the way home and as for comparing it with the UK - words fail me!!!

I do think in fairness you havae to be careful of generalising too much. After all it clearly depends on where you are comparing with where. Wher I live in UK we get significantly less average rainful than much of France and average temps and sunshine hours are on a par with a lot of north western France.
You really have to go Vendee, Charente area and south in general to get consistently "on average" better weather than we have here in SE England
Not disputing your own experiences as micro climates ecists all around but just saying I do think many people especially new travellers to France expect weather to be great as soon as they get past Calais
There's a considerable difference in climate , in terms of rainfall and temperatures between the Roscoff area of Brittany and the far south east.. This is due to the influence of the Atlantic stream weather front which gives such great weather down the western coast of France ( but not the far south west around Biarritz which isn't quite so good) The Vannes/Carnac area benefits from this weather front, unlike the rest ofBrittany.
Having said that we've had good weather on most occasions further up the coast around Concearneau. The whole of the southern coast of Brittany is great, but as mentioned don't go near st Laurent! We're back to Carnac for the first time in four years in August on the way up from the Dordogne. Really looking forward to it.

To illustrate the point re weather expectations, whilst at le letty we stood one evening in the warm drizzle chatting to 2 families from Manchester. Now we live in east Anglian which is one of if not the driest parts of the uk so we were more down on the drizzle than the mancuians, they were fine with drizzle as it was warm and they'd just spoken to someone back home who said it was torrential rain there. They were more easily pleased by the weather than us.

Sorry to jump into the thread, I'm also looking for the perfect Brittany site for 'new to France' campers - we're a family of 5 and have been to France before and camped before but never attempted the two together!

Agreed, my point exactly. Coming from the driest borough in the UK for several years running we are certainly more sensitive to wet weather than many!
