We are considering getting the ACSI card for our off season trips next year to France/Spain. Looking at some of the sites it appears that the price for a normal pitch is only 1 or 2 euros more than the ACSI price and it seems as if you have to pay extra for eg a full service pitch, so not really saving much. I have also seen some comments on certain sites where people have been given rubbish pitches using the card by the site owners.
Have I got this right or have the few sites I looked at just not given much in the way of savings?

The campsites I have looked at all give a reasonable discount with the ACSI card. Don't forget it includes electricity.

Which campsites did you feel were not giving a good discount?

I am saving around 45 euro on my two week holiday next year so I think its worth it. On some sites the saving will be much more.

We paid 15 euros a night last year in Italy, correct price was nearly double that. We were well happy to have it, and have got it again this year even though we won't be able to use it on our main holiday in July.

Excellent value for money. Very substantial discounts from the normal rate at every French site we have used apart from one at boulogne sur mer.

Most French caravanners on this forum will recommend ACSI or Camping Cheques or both. It's a big saving for us over 6/12 weeks but worth it for only a few night as well. Handy website and books for planning too

Most places allow you to pick your pitch and its low season so there are normally loads to choose from.

We find we normally save the cost of the book/card over 2 or 3 nights, so after that it's savings all the way, however small.

The only time we have been restricted in which pitch we could use was at Lake Garda, and this is clearly stated in the book. Having said that, the 'full price' pitches were no better.

The only word of caution I can give, is that the ACSI discount seems to be mostly on higher priced sites. We have sometimes found that many of the facilities, pool, bar etc, are closed during the discount period, so for the limited facilities available, it might have been possible to find a cheaper site, eg a municipal.

One great advantage we have found is that whilst touring we can easily identify which sites are open, and the directions are usually very helpful too.

My ACSI books c/w CampingCard arrived today, and at a total cost of just under £10 it would be rude not to have.

You have to take ACSI for what it is, which is clever marketing, nothing wrong in that.

Not all ACSI campsites participate in the CampingCard scheme, but many of those that don't will offer similiar if not better rates than ACSI CampingCard in anycase.

To be fair though, although I have been a ACSI CampingCard subscriber since 2008 I have yet to use the card in anger, as being campers we always go to the South of France during mid July for our fortnight campings, as we know this offers better weather than can be hoped for by going during the ACSI CampingCard dates, the thought of saving £150 or so on pitch fees is temping, but in the great scheme of things it would only be a small fraction of saving on the overall holiday cost.

So as usual I will be handing over the CampingCard to a friend or family member should they choose to go out of season.

One big advantage we find is that the sites in the book are actually open when they say they are. We have gone to other sites in low season which should be open, and aren't. the other advantage is that they attract customers, so there are more fellow campers around, so it can be worth site owners opening facilities or heating pools etc, where they might not if they were much quieter. Of course, you don't need to buy the book to use the sites in low season, but we have always saved enough to make it worthwhile, especially when we took our dog.

We go to France for about 3 months but only out of high season , so the ACSI card and Camping Cheques mean considerable savings.
We also use municpals and other sites, but the ACSI has more than paid for itself many times over.

it is worthwhile  even if you only use it for a handful of nights    we use it in july and august and can get sites up to 14 july and start again around 17th august  so there are plenty of nights to play with    a no brainer in fact    I have booked one site and asked to pay the first few night by card and the other nights via caravan club because of the price differences with the 'usual' prices      no problem whatsoever

Yes, definitely - but remember, "other sites are available" and you still need to do your research to make sure a site is right for you.

We used ACSI on almost all sites visited in Europe during our 2 month trip in May & July. We saved a fortune, as could have been paying up to 22 Euros in places - especially Italy (L. Garda).
Site owners were glad to see us, as many were almost deserted.

Back again in 2013 - WITH ACSI CARD!

Camping Cheques were used occasionally as well - same result. We recommend taking both.

Ours usually pays for itself with the savings after 2 or 3 nights! (€15 instead of 30 on some sites!)

Agree that ACSI card is well worth it, we always have one with us and have saved a considerable amount over the years. Don't forget that some sites also offer 7 nights for the price of 6, thereby saving even more. We saved about 50 Euros doing that on a site in Burgundy: cost for a week to us was about 94 Euros, full price would have been about 150 Euros for that week if paying the "normal" price. The pool was open too.

Go for it, there is a lot of choice as far as sites are concerned, you'll recoup the cost in no time.

I have used their cards in the past but won`t be using them again. I paid for my card nearly 6 weeks ago and it still hasn`t arrived.
It is almost impossible to contact then via email.
I did manage to get 1 reply from them 4 weeks after I`d paid for it, telling me it would be another 3-4 weeks before I got it !
That means that I will have paid for 12 months membership, but won`t have been able to use it for at least 2 of them !!
They have not replied to any of my further emails of complaint.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE !!!!

I DO NOT recommend
