Hi Everyone!  Thinking of holidaying in the Southern Vendee - Jard sur Mer/ La Tranche area.  Have recently travelled further south to Royan (Les Mathes) area, which we all loved - particularly the Cote Sauvage.  We like a relaxed campsite with a good international mix - not Little Britain in France!  Have two boys 12 and 14 who are not interested in kids clubs but like a good pool, ping pong and making some new friends. Any suggestions or recommendations of sites or areas would be most welcome.  Thanks

Ann

Ann

I noticed that in a previous post you mentioned Zagarella at Longeville.

I booked provisionally last week and got an e-mail from the owner asking me to return deposit and booking form ASAP as he was down to last 2 pitches.  Don't know whether he was lying or not but Jim says it does get booked up very early.

Neil

Thanks for that Neil - we are hoping to hire one of the mobile homes on the site this year.  However, I do plan to make a booking this week (when I've decided where!) as I know that sites fill up quickly in the children's holidays.

We have been to Vendee a lot. I like Jard sur mer , we have stayed at Oceano d'or twice- lively large site good for teenagers, handy for Super U supermarket, church and walking to town and beach.

If you want something smaller, quieter and pretty- Les Ecquerils ( Squirrels) is nice.

Last year we went to Les Brunelles in Longevielle which was a short drive away from a fantastic beach but you had to drive to get to the town of Jard. We would pass Zagarella which is on the main road to La Tranche.

The beaches on the way to La Tranche are great and not crowded. I prefer Jard sur mer as a town as it is a bit more "French"

If you're going for more than a few days, you need to book early.

Jim

In my previous post I meant don't know whether the campsite owner was lying saying he only had 2 pitches left.  Now I've read my post again it sounds like I was calling you a liar!!!

See you in August

Neil

Neil, I knew what you meant - twas only joking.

I'll buy you a pint (0.5 litre) just to prove it.

Thanks for all your help.  I've just e-mailed Zagarella and Les Dunes to check on their availability.  On a snowy day there is nothing better than planning a trip to the sun (I hope!).

You should try les Mancellieres at Avrille about 7 miles from la Tranche sur Mer and les Conches beach.  A really nice quiet family site with a weekly disco on a Thursday till 12.30am.
