I seem to recall that the cheapest prices on the Tunnel when we first started using it (with Tesco vouchers) was about £48 each way. Then it seemed to be £57 for a while. Now with the campervan, it's about £5 more than a car. I've just booked the cheapest I could at £68 each way, that's £136 in total.
(£135 of vouchers, £1 paid by card).

I,ll tell the wife it ain,t just ME that gets it wrong ! <img align="absmiddle" src="forum_images/smiley20.gif" width="23" alt="17"> I did same , but to be fair, they just put us on next available.

Well, obviously, it was my husband's mistake! He booked us on the 7.00 am ferry , when what we needed was the 19.00. I didn't spot the error until we were on our way to Folkstone. I told him 'You got us in to this mess, you can sort it out', but as it happened no one even commented upon our late arrival. I assume both slots must be in the same price zone, or I am sure they would have asked for a supplement.

Men!

The tunnel with Tesco tokens ... because that's almost the same as 'free'.

The ferry is more fun though, especially the overnight ferry.

Hi All

I have just double checked and I am definitely being quoted £142 RETURN for August on the Tunnel - £71 each way. I am amazed by the prices some of you are managing to get on the ferries in August! I can't get anything better than £120! What's your secret(s)?

Oh and just to confirm we have a tent (and roofbox) but are not towing anything.

Thanks to all as always for such helpful responses.

That sounds about right for tunnel if not towing. Its double if towing. Roofbox or high sided vehicles don't cost anymore on Eurotunnel but they ask you for details so they can allocate correct number in each of the coaches (some are double height)

Apprently Caravan Club have cheap DFDS prices booking till end of January still for car and caravan (not sure if you can only book car?)

You can book just a car with the CC offer and DFDS are quite cheap, I dont think you will save that much though as you arent towing so if I were you I would use the tunnel. Weve saved £208 in peak season by usng DFDS ferries and the tunnel is too expesnive for us with a caravan.

We have done the tunnel several times and used DFDS last year for the first time, hubby prefers the ferry as he gets a 2hr break from driving and we live a long way from Dover so its ideal for us. We found DFDS fine and the ferrys were ok, smallish but clean and we had a full english for £7 each which was really nice and set us up for out journey in France.

If there wasnt much difference in price then it would be the tunnel as its quicker and they put you on the next train so weve never had to wait, weve never had time to even mooch around the shops its been so quick.  The £208 is alot for us and pays for half our fuel costs so its worth it.

Just to add to my post iv quickly priced up Dover - Dunkirk for you with the CC no van just car,  sailing out on Sunday 18th August as this is usually cheapest day to sail! Cheapest price is £94 return.
