Hello, having spent far too many hours searching campsites in South West France we have now decided we want to be near St Jean De Luz for a 10 night stay in August between St Emillion and the ferry back from Bilbao.

My preferred site so far is Larrouleta and I have read the reviews on here and elsewhere.  Has anyone any other recommendations in that area? We would like somewhere with a pool and play area but quiet at night.  Also I will only stay somewhere with toilet seats and as yet I can't work out whether there are at Larrouleta.

Any tips? Thanks.

We stopped at this site 2 years ago, just for one night as we were driving back from Portugal.  The site was fine and yes there are seats on the toilets...although they are unisex which being British gave me a shock when I walked in to face a man doing a wee!!! 17

Yes, the urinals are impossible to miss when you walk in the door, and to make things more confusing the toilet cubicles are all blue and the shower cubicles are all pink - maybe women are supposed to shower but not wee, and men are the opposite!!  But it's a nice site and the owner is a real character, always wearing his Basque beret.

Thanks for your advice. However we decided it was a bit too big for us and I am a total prude and don't want, for myself and my daughter, to go anywhere near urinals! We have now settled on Camping Goyetchea. Not that I am obsessed but I hope that has toilet seats!! Has anyone stayed there?

There is only one review on this website.

Thanks.

Larrouleta is anything but quite at night - It is very close to the motorway and traffic can be heard all night. We stayed a couple of years ago and it had been raining for weeks and all the pitches that were in use were mud baths. There was one are with nice green grass covered pitches, which we were told were closed.

Glad we decided against it.  My two main dislikes of campsites are noise at night and no toilet seats!
