This campsite looks fantastic and has great reviews.

Just a slight reservation that it may be a little too quiet. We are not for all singing all dancing sites but its nice to have some things going on and people to chat to if you know what I mean!

Has anyone been there? Any advice about the area?

Thanks

Our friend is looking for a house in France, in the area around Eymoutiers, and we've looked at staying there for a few days this year and meeting up with him.  Gorges du Chambon is an ACSI Card site too, during the following dates: Period of validity: 20/04 - 05/07 and again from 24/08 - 13/09 and does 14 nights for the  price of 11, or 7 nights for 6.

The reviews say it all I think!

The area is rolling hills, green, and pleasant, but not 'spectacular' - like much of inland France to be honest!

I have this site on my itinerary for a tour this year. The reviews are good and it does seem in a location to just chill out. However I do want to visit Oradour sur Glane which is about 30 miles away so I may change tack and stay nearer to Limoges unless someone on here can make me change my mind.
Decisions, decisions.

Some people just want a very pleasant, smart, high quality camp site, regardless of where it is. Others choose the area they want to visit, the places they want to see, and the things they want to do, and will tolerate a lower quality camp site to be able to do those things. Your choice may not be mine!

We stayed there in the very hot summer of 2003. It is very quiet and you get an incredible amount of space with your pitch - we managed a full size badminton court on ours.

I seem to recall the site bar / restaurant being very good - handy because nothing else within walking distance.

Only thing I didn't like was when walking down to the river we got a strong whiff from the septic tank - however it was easy to find alternative routes.

A must visit in the area is La Rochefoucauld - some lovely riverside restaurants - watch the kingfishers while you eat - an interesting chateau and some beautiful old cloisters which would really draw the crowds if situated in the Loire or Dordogne - but where they are we were the only people there at the time.

Also worth a visit to the wine co-op at nearby Saint-Sornin to stock up on the local vin de pays which is very good value indeed.
