Any suggestions for best route and stop over from Calais to Dordogne (2 hours south of Limoges) on Saturday August 10 in our motorhome? I plan to leave Calais about 3-4pm spending the night at an Aire around dusk. I estimate driving times of about 12 hours, would this be correct?

Many thanks

You cheapest, ie least toll route would be Calais, Rouen, Chartres, Orleans & on down the autoroute to Limoges, this is mostly dual carriageway so should be ok at the time you are going. Driving time is about right.

Agree with Tentz, we have a motorhome and have done that route a number of times, either going or coming back. Very good roads.

many thanks sounds like the best route but how much quicker is it using tolls via PAris?

You can use one of the rotue planning websites to find times/routes.  Viamichelin or Autoroutes.fr are good ones, and you can select toll/non toll and add places you want to go 'via' so that if you were plotting the Rouen route outlined above you'd input Calais, Rouen, Chartres, etc., and if you wanted to go via Paris input Paris instead.  Make sure you select the correct type of vehicle - some larger motorhomes are Class 2.

That way you can look at the various options - just play around with the site until you've got something you like the look of.

Probably save a couple of hours & a slightly easier drive, Its just motorway A26, A1 to Paris, follow signs through Paris(all dual carriageway)A10 Bordeaux & then just carry on down to Orleans. Won't be that cheap because motorhome is class2 rate but its toll free motorway after Vierzon.
