Hi

We are thinking if holidaying at the above campsite in Belgium using P&O ferries crossings either to Rotterdam or Zeebrugge. It's effectively a quick cheap means of someone in Scotland to holiday on the continent.

We did think about France last year but didn't because of the jet stream. As this will be our first trip we want to get it right.

Firstly has anyone else travelled from Scotland to that site?

How did it go?

How busy is the site at the start of July?

I noted they have a music festival on the last weekend of June has anyone had any experience arriving just after the festival.....was the site more like a builders yard?

We ask these questions as the site looks lovely and the reviews sound great......we just don't want it to be an anti climax because we stay there at the wrong time.

Any more advice any other sites worth a look?

How do Dutch and Belgian sites compare? Is one country's better than the others?

We have 3 kids aged 6-12 who like the outdoors and active holidays.....hence us being attracted to this site.

Sorry can't help with any of your specific questions about De Lilse Bergen, hoping bumping you back to the top of the list may help there. You'll have seen my review for the site. We visited in August so nowhere near the music festival. There was quite a lot of seasonal campers there when we were and who can blame them for the price! Your kids would love the place it's brilliant for them as there's loads of play equipment and the lake's fantastic. Take their bikes, tennis and table tennis stuff, football frisbee, badminton, inflatables etc. And don't forget plenty of towels as with all that water you'll need them!

Thanks for your feedback.

How did your holiday go there?

Did you stay on site a lot or did you travel around a lot?

Did you stay there for a long or short duration?

Is there much to do close to hand? What is the local town like?

We are thinking of doing the long journey to get to either Belgium or Holland then pretty much staying put.

That said the opportunity to be in 5 countries pretty much in one day may get the better of us.

We did Dover - Calais then stayed for a week. We did have the odd day roaming round, getting lost, but pretty much stayed on site. Can't remember what the local towns were like but we must have found supermarkets quite close by. Lots of cycling locally. The site is quite near a main road so there is a bit of road noise (a background hum).

Hi,

We live in the Scottish Borders and used the Hull to Zeebrugge crossing a couple of years ago. It was fine but we underestimated the time it took to travel from home to Hull so it was a bit stressful. It took ages to get past Newcastle and the Metro Centre.

This time we are travelling from Newcastle to Amsterdam then down into France so that we are nearer home when we arrive back in the UK. It was much cheaper to book through the Caravan Club.

I'm sorry I can't help you with specific campsites, we stayed in one near Bruges which was far from brilliant but okay for a couple of days.

I am happy to answer any ferry questions though. We are now much more prepared for our next ferry crossing and know what to expect.

Millie

Hi there

We've been to De Lisle twice now and I can't praise it highly enough! There is loads for the kids to do and I don't think their website does it any justice. The swimming lake and man made beach is excellent, as is the huge play area and the sports pitches at the other end. The pitches are huge and with it being in a forest, my kinda thought they were on an adventure every day! Very laid back and never encountered any bother. Mixed nationalities and we made friends with two Belgian couples, really nice people.

We went from Harwich to Hook of Holland, which was great, although the drive down to Harwich is 7 or 8 hours but we try to make it part of the holiday.

We always went second half of July so missed the festival   but I would imagine the festival would be held at the main building which is away from the camping part.

Seriously you and your kids would love it. Loads to do on site, most of it free but what you pay for is worth it and you don't get ripped off. The theme parks
Bobbjanland and D'Efteling in Holland are worth a visit too.

Let me know if you want any more info

Cheers
Tracey

Sorry cant help with the crossings.we went Dover to Dunkirk for &75 return a few years ago and drove to de lilse which took about 3 hours with a stop.
The site is absolutely brilliant especially if you have kids.
Will definitely go back if we ever go that way again.m

We really like the look of the site, but want to use a weekend ferry (because its cheaper), but with our holiday dates it makes us clash with the festival.....ideally we would have liked to have arrived and had a nice easy Sunday drive to the site. But they have recommended arriving on the Monday. Having tried to research other Belgian sites there just doesn't seem to be one to match de Lisle.....so we are in a bit of a quandary.

Thanks for the advice regards drive time, I know from experience that Scarborough takes an age with a caravan down the A1 from Scotland so will try to factor that in.

How about stopping off somewhere just into France on Sunday night, you could have a lie in on Monday morning and still be there for lunchtime.
