Have sorted the Dordogne part of our trip out. Now looking at the South West area of France to stop for about 5 days on our way to Northern Spain.
Have found a very reasonably priced site with a pool and good facilities in Labenne Locean. The site gets good reviews on Zoover (not listed here), but I wondered if anyone could tell us about the area please? In particular, is there anything to do other than the beach?

Hi,  we stayed in Labenne Ocean a few years ago for 10 days and to be honest there is not really alot to do in Labenne Ocean itself other than the beach. The sea is very rough - great for surfing. There are a few shops and restuarants near to where the main campsites are and these did look a little run down . There are good places to visit in the area if you are happy to do some driving. St Jean de Luz and Biarritz are within easy reach and both worth a visit and we enjoyed a trip on La Rhune railway on the border with spain. WE had very hot weather for the whole of our stay althopugh the weather can be unpredicatable being so close to the Pyrenees.

we stayed at camping Boudigau in labenne ocean a few years agowebsite

As leggy said the sea is very rough but spectacular - there is a good water park in labenne ocean there are also miles of forrest cycle tracks which provide some shade from the sun and are great to explore on bike or foot - but mainly it is the beach and the views - spectacular seas, views of Spain across the bay and the mountains....Bliss

Often crowds gathered at the shoreline just watching the surf - entering the sea can be painful due to the shingle in the water hitting your skin at force- but don't let it put you off The beaches are strictly guarded for your safety and it will be an experience you will never forget

if you dont mind traveling a bit by car then Biarritz and St Jean Du Luz are a must and then The Rue de la Corniche between St Jean Du Luz and Hendaye provides amazing scenery.

We were there for two weeks and loved it - and certainly did not get bored.

Google this phrase for an idea if the surf.....

"Surf big waves Labenne Avril 2010 Landes"

Guy.

We have stayed at this site. Very pleasant. The Landes region is full of pine forests, sand dunes and swamps. There are many cycle tracks. Having said that there are interesting villages, Biarritz is worth a visit. Distances between places are quite long.

Thank you so much for the replies. We love cycling and were looking at the area because I thought there were cycle tracks.
Don't mind a bit of driving as long as it's not for hours!
Only there for a few days so I'm sure we'll find something to do by the sound of it.
Have just e-mailed one site to check availability and prices.
