Hi, I have a dilemma to sort out.  I am going to Lake Garda in August to attend a wedding.  We want to make a fortnight of it stopping in Germany on the way.  My problem is that the wedding is going to take place in Malcesine so we need to be as near to this area as possible.  I have found a few sites along the main road alongside the lake but my concern is how noisy this will prove to be.  We have a large tent Vermont XLP so we will need a large pitch.  If anyone could comment on how much traffic is on the lake road during the night or of a site they could recommend in the area I would be grateful. The sites I have found so far are Tonini and Lombardi.  The second appears to be in a quite area but I’m not sure how large the pitches will be.

Any help would be great.

Although we have been to lake Garda several times over the years I am not familiar with the two sites you mention. Did you realise that by double clicking on the site plan for Camping Tonini that it has a gallery of pictures of all the pitches? I have never seen that before and think its an excellent idea. The problem with lots of Italian sites is that pitches are not as big as say France but sometimes you strike lucky. Sorry I can't be of more help.

We stayed at a site in Limone ... just across the lake from Malcesine ... good ferry connection ... but probably too far for your requirements!

I can't comment on any of the sites near Malcesine as I've never stayed on any - it's a hotel for me when I go there - but I can tell you there's very little traffic on the main road during the night.

In May 2010 we went to a wedding in Malcesine ( and Tigermouse gave fab advice and info 17 )

we decided to base our holiday in Cisano and then just travelled up for the wedding ( using the ferry ) and stayed overnight at a cheapish hotel

Heavens, I can't believe it's almost three years since you went - where does the time go??

I recommend Torbole as well - Camping Maroadi used to be nice, although it has been a few years since I went

I'm hoping to go back there myself soon. I'm loving my many camping trips in this country but really missing Lake Garda now.
