Hi looking to camp in France, interested in somewhere approx 6 hours drive from Le Havre. Anyone got recommendations please for a reasonable size site no more than 200 pitches, must have an outdoor pool, decent size pitches and excellent shower/toilet facilities, either in forest or near the coast, or both!! But definitely not an over commercialised site with a load of screaming kids around! Suggestions would be appreciated thank you.

It really depends what area you fancy and how far you drive in that time.

Have you had a look here: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/county.asp?region=France

Thinking Vendee region, have trawled through uk campsite but to be honest just seeing too many, looked at so many leaflets that we acquired recently from Camping and Caravan Show that our heads are buzzing. The ones that we think look promising on paper are a let down when we read reviews etc.

take a look at this site

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=6561

we have a static there and seems to meet your needs, the site was vastly improved last year, they had someone monitoring the pool constantly and the pitches were a lot better maintained, a new reception was built along with a snack bar. the site suffered a couple of years ago when the owners daughter left to run her own site in St Gilles (camping europa), but last year it was back to its usual good standard of a very french camp site

we will be there over easter so will update the reviews thread - so you will get a more up to date 'picture' so you can make an 'informed' decision.

you might want to consider the site at sion sur l'ocean. its in the forest adjacent to the beach, i havent stayed there but visited the site a couple of times

Dordogne: 7.5 hours
Loire: 3.5 hours
Limoges: 5.75 hours
Nantes: 4.25 hours
Niort: 5 hours
Clermont Ferand: 6 hours
Dijon: 5 hours

Various 'gateways' ...

What we usually do is shortlist two or three sites in each of (say) four different areas, and then do a last minute check on weather forecasts (usually on the day ... even on the ferry!) ... and then decide where to go ... nothing worse than getting somewhere only to find you have a week of overcast skies ... and weather patterns are becoming more and more difficult to guarantee ... at least anywhere north of Limoges!
