We're on the last stages of booking our holiday. Decided to spend a little longer getting to our first main site than the normal 1 night stop and so I am looking for a site no more than 3-4 hours from Calais for 3 nights before heading down to the Ardeche . All the sites I have come across seem only just good enough for 1 night stops or just a bit too far to drive. We have a caravan and an 8 and 9 year old. don't mind a slight detour away from the main route down as long as the sites are fairly easy to find.
Any suggestions would be really welcome.

If using the A26 via Reims there are not many family sites en route without a detour. There is a site that everyone uses at Chalons-en Champagne but whether there is enough for 3 nights with children there I wouldn't like to say. If you want to push your parameters a bit further there is Kawan Camping Lac D'Orient just east of Troyes. It's 250 miles from Calais so will take about 5 hours plus stops. I only mention it because it will be well suited to a 3 night stop with small children. Lakeside site, swimming pool, eateries etc.
I can't comment on the Paris route as I never use it.

As an overnight stop we would use the municipal at Val de Vesle - some recent reviews here on Campsite Search button - but not to stay 3 nights. There are also reviews of the Chalons site - which gets mixed comments these days, and again it's not one for 3 days . We'd stay one night at either of those, and go on to Burgundy - E.g Les Coullemieres at Vermenton which we liked a lot.
Yes thanks. I have read the reviews for most of the sites around the area we were hoping to stop hence my dilema. We have planned a 3 site touring holiday down south over almost 4 weeks so was hoping to get to our main site down south with only 1 stop over to reduce even more stops and starts .looks like we might have to push on to Troyes and arrive late on the site. That doesn't allow much time for delays in travelling either.

You should get to Troyes area well enough, though I'd cross the Channel on the previous evening to get an early start from Calais. Hope it all goes well for you all.
We use a site just north of Reims (j14 A26) called Camping au bord de l'Aisne at Guignicourt. This site is about 2 miles from the motorway. Has a covered heated swimming pool and play areas for children. We leave this site and reach the Ardeche by late afternoon.
We are going down to the Ardeche later this year. We intend to stay at this site http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=6389 which is 4 1/2 hours from Calais. Their is only one revue which is very positive but old. We intend to stay 3 nights as there look to be some interesting places to visit.
