We are away for long trip in Europe over the summer for 9 wks ..lucky I know.. But am struggling to get insurance cover for our house to cover this length of time. Most cover only 30 days , and few cover up to 60, without it being a huge premium.

Knowing that many of you are away for similar periods what do you do? Can anyone recommend an insurer who may fit this bill... Ringing around or doing online takes so long I thought this may be quicker!

Thanks for your help...

Do you have friends/family who can look in to check on things?

If they do, it's not "empty or unoccupied" and your existing insurance should cover ok.But it would be safer to ask the insurer first.  If it has to be "lived in" then can one of the above do a sleep-over around the middle of your holiday?

Most insurers will cover you for 60 days, Saga does anyway. 60days is only 3 days short of 9wks so you should be ok.

More Than Insurance is also OK up to 60 days unoccupied - and defines that as meaning "not slept in frequently", so an occasional check up visit after that wouldn't count

Thank you all v much for your posts.. Great advice as always... Have taken on board what you say about the interpretation of 60 day criteria... Just to scare you the caravan club renewal quote was for £804.....which was ridiculous amount of money !

If you will put the tiara and diamond necklace on the policy, what do you expect.

I found the Camping and Caravan Club quite reasonable and they allow quite a long period away from home. Although I have been a member of the Caravan Club for many years I don't find their insurance premiums very good value especial for home and car insurance.

Building insurance should not be a problem, we just paid a surcharge of about 20% above the normal price for 12 months empty property insurance.

Think it could be the contents bit could be a problem.
