Does anyone known of this campsite and if so what is your opinion.

Playa Montroig Spain

We were recommended it by a Dutch caravanner last year who had been going for some years. No reviews on here for it and I have read about the railway running thru the middle of it (?)... Apart from Zoover which is double Dutch to me !

We have decided to have a break from France and head into Spain for at least a while this year.

Any thoughts?

Hi,
It is a large site, 1300 pitches. There is a part of it which is dedicated to Eurocamp etc. & this is separate from the touring pitches.
Although it is large, it is a family site, most people have been returning for years, this year will be 25+ years for us. We have been to other sites but like everybody else, we say, "we have tried different sites but none compare with Montroig".
It has everything on it,and I do mean everything, it is very clean and well maintained, every year they spend money to improve it even more.
Have a look at their website, whatever it says is true. It is a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for.
There are different areas to the site and most people go to the same area/plot each year.Personally I can't speak highly enough of it.
The railway line does run through the middle of the site but it is at the top of the touring site (have a look at the site map)and there is a tall thick hedge that runs along it, unless you park next to the hedge you won't be aware of the trains.
We think it is a fantastic site.

Is it expensive?  Is Madrid the capital of Spain?  We went there for several years 2000 - 2006 and it was expensive then.  How expensive?  We were in the cheapest area, which is now dedicated to mobile homes, and we paid 30 euros to start with, going up to 40 by the time we left.  The most expensive ones - sites facing the beach - had gone up to 100 euros a night when we left.  So add a few years and several euros and you have your answer.  However, we did enjoy the site.  All singing and all dancing, if that is what you want.  There was no need to leave the site at all during our stay.  The shop was a mini supermarket.  Plent of restaurants and entertainment - huge pool complex, gym and doctor.  But far too dear.  There was someone in the loo block even after midnight making sure the showers were clean for the next candidate.

Go onto the Playa Montroig website, there are photo's of the site. There is a map of the site and there is a price list, if you know the dates you can see exactly how much it will cost you. The plots nearest to the beach are the most expensive but no matter which plot you choose you won't be more than 150 metres from the beach. We always stay on a "Premier Classic" and this has plug in water and drainage.
It is probably a little more expensive than most sites but you get what you pay for.
Also if you are going in a few weeks time you are not going in the high season so it won't be too expensive.
The railway does divide the site, it has a very high hedge running along the line and you go under a tunnel to get to the camping plots. Park away from the hedge and you won't be aware of the trains.
A lot of people have been going there for many years, we are about 30 odd years but I have spoken to people who have been going there for over 40 years so I think that speaks for itself.

Nead, I have just seen where you are from. If you are going all the way to Spain from Co. Wicklow I wouldn't have thought a few extra euro's would worry you. The prices in the site supermarket are very good, no different to outside and I am sure that they are a lot cheaper then Ireland. My wife tells me that meat is the only thing that is expensive but it is good quality.
I guarantee you will love it.

42 euros to 20/6    then  58  euros to 4/7    then  91 euros to 25/8  for the premium plus pitches      so you can see why I said it was expensive

re the railway    it is the main line to and from Barcelona   the Ave high speed train uses it    as well as the slow coaches which hrundle through    you get used to it so the noise becomes less but you will always hear it because you are never more than a hundred or so yards away from the line   (as a teenager my friend's dad was the local staion master so lived on the station  we got used to the trains  but they were always there)

iit is a lovely site but .............

Thank you for the replies, I was just trying to get some idea of what the costs would be like, have never driven this far before, we usually holiday in Norcenni girasole in Tuscany so had no idea how expensive this place would be, have had to tighten the belts a little recently so just wanted to be as prepared as possible, forewarned is forearmed:-) I'm delighted you all have positive comments about the site, its very reassuring, thank you.

Hi. Does anyone have any recent experience of this site, or the several around it please? In particular the train noise.
I’ve read the reviews on all sites. One suggests the train line isn’t used?
Thank you.
Wes.

A Playa Montroig Camping Resort review from last year says the railway as been removed.

This is also confirmed on their own website in 2020!

"End of train traffic

We are pleased to inform you that since January 13 of 2020, no more trains are running along the railway line parallel to the coast that has passed through our resort until now.

The new railway line of the Mediterranean corridor, which is several kilometers from the resort, is now in operation since January"

At £850 for the cheapest pitch, and more than double (and a bit) for the best premium pitch, for a week in late August, I think I shall be passing on that one, and stay in France. I can find a site I like for the same dates, for 91 euros for the same week (ACSI Card 13 euros per night site). Or I might have a week later at L'Amfora (another beachside site in Spain) for 27 euros per night just a few days later.
