We are looking to take our tent and two kids to La palombiere at the start of the summer holidays. I'm a bit worried though that the site may be full of caravans? Don't want to be the only tents there. Has anyone been? Also how big are the pitches?

There are a few reviews on this website, and one of them does mention that there are a lot of statics and tour operators. This is quite usual at sites used by lots of tour operators - on the other hand that usually means that there are a lot of children for your children to mix with and make friends with.
What is it about La Palombiere that you particularly like? If so, someone may know a similar site with, perhaps, a better ratio of tents to caravans.
We want a smallish not too busy site, not overly active in evening (but can tolerate a little evening entertainment for the kids sakes). kids are 7 and 10. 10 yr old loves water slides. Would like shop and takeaway on site, kids club would be a plus but not essential.
We would consider other area's outside of the dordogne, where trying to find area that has lots of interesting landscape, history and with coast but with warm sunny weather. so Brittany a bit too close to uk's weather and med could be too hot. Settled on dordogne as at least there are all the rivers and river beaches to splash in. We have been to the vendee and found it a bit too flat and dull. Any suggestions gratefully received as I am going round in circles trying to find somewhere!
Have you had a look at La Paille Basse near Soulliac - This is a lovely campsite with a waterslide and lovely pool with beautiful views. It is quite remote but with the car all the sites of the Dordogne are not far away.
We have been to La Palombiere in the Dordogne. It is quite a busy site . We were in a Canvas Holiday tent and I must say our emplacement was very small - but looking around the campsite the size of the emplacements do seem to vary quite a lot. Its a nice site but we would not go again but that was a problem we and our friends had with the owner Im sure most people do not have a problem.
Whatever you decide Im sure you will have a lovely time the Dordogne area it beautiful and all the campsites we have stayed in have been lovely

Hi
we did 9nights last year on this site with a caravan and there were plenty of tents on. The site has lots going on and the good thing about it is most things are free, such as Wi-Fi, trampolines, tennis. The pools are great with water slides and a lovely sunbathing grass area. They have something on most nights in summer. The only reason it didn't tick every box for us is our van is a huge twin axle and the pitches are tight to get into. It's more suited to smaller vans and tents. There's lots of static vans on. I also prefer a riverside location and this site isn't close enough to the river.
We had a great holiday here if you look at my reviews you will see where we've been in this area. I would go again but only with a single axle van.
