Having spent the last year travelling in Europe, including both France and Spain, I'd have to agree with Frederico and Mattsurf about Spanish prices being cheaper, especially fish and meat. I remember buying two good-sized pork chops for less than a euro in Mercadona - it was so cheap I felt quite embarrassed! We also found eating out, or just having a coffee or a beer, cheaper. (Not as cheap as Croatia, but that's another story.) But as Nelmo rightly says, the cost of the journey is higher, though if you cross the Pyrenees near St Jean Pied de Port and drive down through Spain you avoid the expensive French tolls. And the beaches on the Bay of Rosas really are lovely and quite unspoiled. For me, and lots of people I expect, a holiday isn't a holiday unless it includes the sea, even though I live on the coast in England and see it most days anyway!

I would be in agreement as well Spain is cheaper but as said all this is subjective..Where you want to go, what you want from the holiday. If driving 750 miles through France is not your idea of a holiday (you can take the ferry but ouch) then Spain is also not for you. We treat the whole thing as a holiday though. I will set off early morning for Dover some 270 miles from home. Forgive me but I don't feel with the chaos of UK roads my holiday starts till the Ferry port outbound. We have an overnight Calais then 2 nights Paris for Disney and then a night near Milau then Spain for 15 nights with a similar return journey. You can get down in a day or two.
We shop at the supermarkets BBQ and eat out and choose one of the sites because we got a cracking deal. Las Dunas can be busy but you feel safe, happy and can enjoy a holiday and the beach !!!! ...As said its so important to get those two, three, four weeks right or at least 95 percent right, you cannot recoup the time...My job takes me all over Europe and I can fly to Girona for next to nothing family as well so again for me getting in the car with Caravan on tow is a holiday...You wont find me on a package holiday..
How about we organise a Spain through here (Caravans MHomes, folding, and tents) for 2014 August... happy to get us a decent rate...maybe should be in a different forum...
