Thanks for the replies, but I had been thinking more of the Jura, or similar area.
Have been on the motorway to Mont Blanc in winter, hadnt planned to go that far, in the summer, until we have longer than two weeks for holidays.

I would recommend Lac Du Chalain which is in Jura region. We stayed at La Pergola campsite. (See my review) We enjoyed it so much that we are going again this year as there was stuff we didn't get to do eg canoe le chatillion.
Arbois is foodie capital and worth a visit- approx 1 hour drive. Cascades Du Herrision was fun for the kids- not many waterfalls in UK you can walk under.
We actually spent most of our time in the lake as we had lakeside pitches and there is lake side access from most of these pitches.
Towing our van was no problem- we had a mid morning Eurotunnel crossing, drove to Chalons en Champagne for overnight stop at about 4.30 pm ish. Arrived at La Pergola approx 2pm ish.(autoroutes). There was a small 'hairy section' just after Poligny to navigate - ie hair pin stuff but only a couple of miles. The lorries seem to manage this road at breakneck speed....
Lons Le Saunier approx 30 min -hypermarket etc and Champagnole 20 min approx had reasonable supermarkets.
Getting the mountain railway from La Dole to Nyon then boat/ steamship (timing it right) over Lake Geneva to Yvoire is a must.
Let me know if you would like to know anything else.

Thanks have replied to your other post.
Am just wary of getting stuck on a narrow, mountain road like some we are on in the winter to get to ski resorts.

The Doubs and Loue valleys in Franche-Comte centering on Besancon (entertaining town with ruins, zoo, museums and lots of restaurants) are good.
