I can't help with the site, or the area, but driving is fine - after about ten minutes you'll wonder why you were worried. Just remember 'bum in the gutter' as you come out of fuel stations, go around roundabouts, etc., and you'll be on the right side of the road!!
However, it might help to know that Haliotis accepts Camping Cheques (see www.campingcheque.co.uk) which will save you five euros a night over the normal site tariff at that time. If you were going in late August you could save ten euros per night! The Camping Cheque covers a pitch for two adults, car and caravan, awning, and electricity and costs £13.95 per night (or 15 euros for other European Camping Cheque users.) You could probably still have a private bathroom and pay a supplement - we've done that on other Camping Cheque sites, but perhaps someone who's stayed at Haliotis might know more about this.

I put a post on the thread "Mont St Michel", which is a bit further down on the page below at the moment, together with a photo of our tent when we had a private facility pitch. As ValA says you can use campingcheque and pay a supplement which is what we did. When we were there it was only €2 per night extra but I believe it is now $5 per night extra (still worth it though as they are really good). As you can imagine they are very popular and as they are limited in number (16 or 20 max I think) they get booked up pretty quickly. If you are considering one I would suggest contacting the site as soon as possible to assess availability. As I said in the other post though the general shower block facilities are good anyway. Cant help with the dog question as we dont have one. Quite a number of French beaches restrict the access for dogs particularly in high season but as you are going out of high season there may be less restrictions, May be a case of "check it out when you get there". I'm sure someone else who has a dog will come along with advice. As ValA says within a few minutes you will find the driving easy and as French roads tend to be far less crowded, driving can be much more pleasurable. Enjoy the experience and the holiday. John
