Don't panic, it may take you a while but treat it as part of the holiday. Use Viamichelin website and put Vallon as your start point and St Leon sur Vezere as the finish and it comes up with 3 options.
The one via Ale, Mendez we have done but as we were not towing it wasn't a problem but memory says its a bit steep. The other routes may be longer but may be more suited to towing.
Check them out. Its a long way but it will be worth it.

Looking at this Amanda has a point that we should maybe do the two areas on two holidays. I have emailed Le Paradis to see if we can change to have full holiday there with two stops offs down. I am pleased we have been made aware as I would have panicked even more en route. It might be too late to alter the holiday due to availability but I've asked them. All part of the newbie experience that's why these forums are so helpful!
We have done it before and intend to do it again this year although from the Dordogne to the Ardeche.
We went via Ales, Ganges, Le Vigan, Millau Bridge, Rodez and Figeac. It was not the shortest as we wanted to go over the Bridge. I can't remember there being any steep hill problems. Like any route between the two points you've got to climb and decend. I also can't remember it taking too long as we arrived at the Dordogne site in plenty of time to set up.

We did this route last year going in the opposite direction, the only real issues were the a)numerous speed bumbs when passing through villages, I stopped counting in the 60s b) the road surface through the Massif Centrale was a little uneven c) the two above reduced average speed to about 40mph.
After Millau go to Rodez, Figeac, Gramat, Souillac. That will be a little quicker.
You could always break the journey for a couple of nights to explore the Gorges du Tarn near Millau.

The Dordogne campsite could not take us for the full duration but the Ardeche one could so as it is our first time I chickened out and am just going to the one place. Ease an awful lot of stress. It has worked out very pricey mind but I am sure it will be worth every penny for our first adventure to France.
Can't decide how to take funds, have been looking at the pre-pay top up cards but they don't have good reviews and I don't fancy taking cash. Any tips would be welcomed.

Don't worry too much about your cash. Check with your bank what they charge for using your debit/credit cards in France. You'll probably find that whatever they charge it'll be less than the fees you'd get charged to take the euros in cash. They usually give you a very good rate of exchange so one weighs out the other.
If you do need to change your plans at the last minute, consider using municipal campsites in France. Most small towns have one, often within walking distance of the town centre, so very handy for restaurants, shops and market. Usually there is no need to book ahead unless it is by the sea, which we tend to avoid because of the crowds. They are clearly sign-posted 'camping municipal.' We have had many unplanned holidays using them, and we have rarely been disappointed.
