We are going to Northern Spain with our motorhome via Santander in July 2013. Any advice on campsites near Santander and anywhere else, preferably near the coast or in the Picos. Cantabria, Asturia, Galicia, the Basque country. Or any other advice at all.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Hi,

I´m from Bilbao (Basque Country) and I´ll be pleased to help you.
Well done, the north coast is in my opinion the most beautiful area of Spain. Cantabria (Santander City province) is plenty of great camp sites by the seashore, which is next to breathtaking mountains. Here you have a list http://www.campinguia.com/campings/cantabria/

Driving a motorhome by the coastal road you´ll be delighted. And you could stop wherever you want. As I usually go camping abroad or further in Spain I haven´t visited most of them. I´ve been to Playa Joyel (In Noja, this is very nice one and has got hight standard facilities, but expensive, on a beach) Playa de Berria (very nice site as well, but only summer season and quite simple facilities, on a breathtaking beach). Playa Regaton (in Laredo, very relaxing, in one of the typical summer holyday towns in Cantabria, 7 km sandy beach)

The rest, I only can tell you about towns, places etc, not the camp sites. Santander city, Isla, Ajo, Somo, Langre, Liencres, Suances, Comillas, San Vicente de la Barquera, Santillana del Mar... by the coast,
And in the inland Valle de Cabuérniga, Liébana, Valle del Nansa y del Saja, and of course, Picos de Europa.

Fantastic area!
We've been many times, and are returning again this year.
This is our favourite site
The Picos is a favourite area for us ... but lots of the coast is pretty splendid, too.
Depending on how long you are going for, you could split your hols .... what are you camping with/in?
Camping Cudillero is a very good site close to the immensely picturesque fishing village of Cudillero.
Las Hortensias is another good coastal site, with frontage onto a beautiful cove with a huge tidal beach ... great for kids.
This one , and this one are two we are intending to try out this summer.
You'll love the area .... we haven't camped much more towards Bilbao ... though we always stop off there for the latest Guggenheim exhibitions .... it's a 'must see' building ... even the outside if you aren't into art.

Sorry ... ignore the question 'What are you camping in?' .... clearly stated in your question ... Doh!
