I think you guys must be made of money but I supose if all singing all dancing sites are your cup of tea then you have to dig deep. Personally I avoid them like the plague and we stick to a couple of beautiful peaceful 10acre sites in Devon, one of which charges £25 a week not a night. Admittedly its back to basics and you do have a point when it comes to the elements but there are plenty of afordable attractions in the area, and of course some great pubs.

Under £4 a night? Back to basics indeed. Take your own shovel?

Some people are saying how expensive Cornwall is. We have camped in very good, clean sites in Cornwall for the past 2 years and have paid under £300 each time for 14 nights for 2 adults and large pitch. Considering 1 week is during the high season as we usually camp middle 2 weeks of July I think this is very reasonable. The sites we have been to are Padstow Touring Park and Tregarton Park and I would recommend them highly.

I ma not si sure where the 2 middle weeks of July are classed as High Season IMHO they are not high season unless no children but even then they cannot be called the highest as the school holidays start around the last week of July. That's when Cornwall really ramps up its prices. Far higher than many French or Spanish sites for a lot less usually.
The key though is the weather. You have to book the holiday you cant book the weather Now whilst it may rain in France and Spain its a welcome cool down and not a trudge round wondering what to do today.

Here in Leicester schools close for summer hols on 12th July. This has, over the years, been altered slightly as traditionally the whole of industry shut down for the first 2 weeks in July.

Ha! Ha! Not quite that basic mikegalagher, in fact the 10acre site in question is only part of the big picture. The owners manor house (the size of Harrods) is set in its own manicured gardens where wedding receptions are frequently held. Not managed to wangle an invitation to one of these yet but I’m working on it. All told there are something like 400 acres of parkland surrounding the manor house which includes a wild life sanctuary with rivers and ornamental ponds etc. The kind of animals you can expect to find are wild boar, red squirrels, otters, wild fowl, small mammals, fish, seahorses in breeding tanks, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, birds of prey which are displayed in the afternoons, and if that’s not enough to keep everyone happy there is a restaurant, a shop and a supervised area for kids to learn bush craft skills. Oh! nearly forgot there are more toilets than you can shake a shovel at but we rarely use them as our van actually has one.  We love it there and I’m sure you would too if only you knew where it was. lol
