About to cross the water to Germany and am getting conflicting advice regarding headlight adjustment.
We have a 2006 Passat with Adaptive Xenon headlights.
According to dealer you can't stick on beam deflectors because the lights get too hot. You also can't fit headlight protectors for the same reason.
The handbook says " the position of these headlights has to be altered and the headlight positioning motor deactivated. Ask a qualified dealership for more information."
Asked dealer and he's has much use has a chocolate teapot.
I've searched the net and get conflicting advice where ever I look.
Does anyone have definitive advice please ?
Thanks in advance.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
All that really matters is whether or not the headlights dazzle oncoming road users when you are driving on the right hand side of the road. You can check this yourself by parking on a dark carpark & positioning yourself at oncoming driver eye level. This would be the definitive test because the only legal requirement is that you do not dazzle oncoming drivers not that deflectors must be fitted whatever.
It is correct that deflectors overheat plastic headlamp lenses with prolonged use so obviously something to be avoided. Most modern cars don't actually require deflectors, any lefthand 'spotter beam' effect shines along surface of road not at the eye level of oncoming drivers.
Most modern cars I know have a dial to lower and higher the headlight beam. If you have this function then this should suffice to avoid blinding oncoming traffic whilst travelling abroad.
